Chapter 803 Hiding Something from Him
Anthony didn't sleep all night, holding his phone in his hand but hesitating to make that call.
What should he say if he called her? Apologize? Or...
He had a thousand things to say, but didn't know how to start.
It was a mess, like a tangled ball of yarn, complicated and intertwined.
By dawn, he felt calmer.
Forget it, they were both adults. She had the ability to think independently.
Maybe what she needed now was some space and time to cool down, and he shouldn't pressure her at this moment.
After a sleepless night, Anthony's head hurt a bit.
He pinched the bridge of his nose.
The emotions he had finally managed to settle were now tangled up again.
They had both been tormented like this.
But what had happened couldn't be undone, at least he couldn't pretend it never happened.
He wanted to be responsible for her, especially since it was her first sexual experience.
He hadn't truly given up on her; he still held onto a glimmer of hope.
How wonderful it would be if they could be together again.
Would there be a turning point after this incident?
He fervently hoped so.
Juniper hid at home for the entire weekend. On Sunday, Brice called, and she used the excuse of "hanging out with a girlfriend" to brush him off and hung up.
Many times, the words "break up" were on the tip of her tongue, but she didn't know how to say them.
She felt regret and reluctance about the relationship, but more than that, she felt guilty for hurting someone who had genuinely cared for her.
The next day, she went downstairs to go to work.
"Good morning, babe." Brice was waiting downstairs with a large bouquet of roses.
Juniper's steps faltered, "Why are you here? Didn't I say you didn't need to pick me up today?"
Seeing him suddenly made her panic. She had been conflicted all night and still hadn't figured out how to talk to him today.
"I missed you." Brice came over with the roses to hug her, but Juniper quickly avoided him.
"What's wrong?" Her action was too obvious, and Brice frowned, "Why won't you let me hug you?"
"You, you're holding flowers."
"So what if I'm holding flowers? You're not allergic to pollen." Brice asked, "You've been avoiding me since the day before yesterday. What's going on?"
"Nothing, you're overthinking. I, I just haven't sobered up from the alcohol."
"Still not sober from the alcohol you drank two days ago?" Brice clearly didn't believe her. "You know, you're not good at lying."
Her eyes blinked rapidly, avoiding his gaze, clearly showing she was lying.
"What's going on? Tell me, please? I'm really worried about you."
Seeing Brice's concerned eyes, Juniper found it even harder to speak.
Her mind was urging her to break up, but her mouth seemed sealed, unable to say the words. She felt terrible.
"Juniper?"
"No, nothing." She ultimately chickened out, avoiding his gaze, "We're going to be late for work, let's go."
She hurried away without even taking his flowers, making Brice even more certain something was wrong.
When they arrived at the office, they heard that Charles had been fired.
It was definitely Anthony, Juniper felt a twinge of gratitude.
Usually focused, she kept getting distracted at work, repeatedly thinking about that night.
She had escaped from Charles' room and accidentally ended up in Anthony's room.
In all of Harmony City, with so many hotels, she was drunk, Anthony was drunk, and his door was open.
The probability of all these coincidences happening was one in ten thousand, but they still happened. She couldn't think of any other reason besides fate.
'God, why do you insist on tying me to Anthony and not let me start over?'
"Why are you frowning so much? What's bothering you?" Brice waved his hand in front of her eyes, "Juniper, Juniper?"
"What?" She snapped back to reality.
"I asked if something's bothering you. You've been frowning."
"No."
"Is it about Charles?"
Juniper's hand trembled.
"His sudden departure, does it have anything to do with you?"
"Of course not. I'm just a collaborator; I don't have the power to make him leave."
"But Mr. Eilish does." Brice pointed out directly.
There was definitely a connection between these people, but he couldn't figure it out, "Something must have happened while I was away. Can you tell me?"
He held her hand, "Aren't I your boyfriend? You should tell me first if something happens."
"No matter how big the problem is, we can find a solution together. It's better than you saying nothing and leaving me guessing like a headless chicken. I'm going crazy."
Brice was straightforward, especially when it came to Juniper; he was even more anxious.
"Really, there's nothing. You don't need to worry."
"Your expression says otherwise. Do you even consider me your boyfriend?"
"I..."
"Tell me, please?" Brice pleaded.
Juniper bit her lip, "I actually... I want to say... I..." She hesitated, "I'm being transferred back to the company tomorrow."
"What? Why so suddenly?"
"It's not sudden. Jack has been discharged and is back at work."
"What does that have to do with you being transferred back? Someone has to stay here."
"I've almost finished the hardest part of this project. The rest can be handled by someone else. We have a new project that needs me. Transfers like this are normal, you know that."
"Yes, transfers are normal, but you're not. You're definitely hiding something from me."
"Can you stop pressuring me?"
"Don't I have the right to know? You're transferring back just to avoid me. Did I do something wrong?"
"You did nothing wrong."
It was all her fault.
"Then why..."
"Brice, can you calm down? I'm just transferring back to work." Juniper tried to soothe him.
"You're transferring back now, but I feel like your next step is to break up with me."
"No, that's not what I mean."
"Juniper, I'm not stupid. I have a feeling you're avoiding me, and it's making me very uneasy."
Brice looked at her. "Tell me the truth. I want to hear the truth."
Juniper felt like she was being pushed to the edge of a cliff. She couldn't hide it any longer.
"I actually..."
"Mr. Darden, Ms. Cooper, it's time for the meeting." The assistant came in to remind them.
"Let's go to the meeting first." Juniper avoided it once again.
Brice tried to grab her but was a step too late.
He hoped his premonition was wrong.
This was the first time he had fully invested in a relationship, wanting to marry her. He didn't want to break up with her, not at all.
Brice's face looked terrible.
