Chapter 449 Conflict

Caleb wasn't afraid of Aidan, but after their last brawl put Aidan in the hospital, he was concerned about triggering another heart attack. Therefore, he remained composed.

"Susan is Oliver's mom."

"She doesn't deserve it; she's just a thief who stole our family's child."

Susan stormed over, furious. "You kidnapped my son; you're the kidnappers."

"Returning the Eilish family's child is only right. You're just a surrogate to me. Consider that an honor."

"Dad!" Caleb's face tightened, his eyes warning him to stop.

Aidan didn't care and sneered. "Am I wrong? I've looked into her. She doesn't deserve to be part of the Eilish family. A woman who becomes a mistress is morally corrupt."

Caleb was about to defend her, but Susan, full of pride, snapped back first, "So, by your twisted logic, it's okay for Eilish men to have multiple women, lie about having fiancées, and deceive others? And the deceived are the ones who are morally corrupt? Is that it?"

"Dad, I was the one who deceived Susan."

Aidan waved him off impatiently. "Nonsense. Even if you did, the result would be the same. She just wants the title of Mrs. Eilish. But let me be clear, she doesn't deserve it. Name your price; I don't have time for this. I can't stand the sight of you."

"Trying to buy my son again?" Susan sneered.

Caleb frowned. 'So this wasn't the first time.'

"Our family has plenty of money, but you don't deserve more. Fifty million dollars is already a lot. If you keep pestering, I won't give you a penny." With the Eilish family's power, crushing her was easier than crushing an ant. How could they allow her to act recklessly in front of him?

"Have you finished your monologue?" Susan interrupted impatiently, "I have no interest in the title of Mrs. Eilish or your family's money. You're the most self-righteous, delusional old man I've ever met. No matter how much money you offer, I don't want my son to be with someone like you."

It was the first time Aidan had been scolded like this. His face turned increasingly blue, his whole body trembling. In a fit of rage, he swung his hand towards Susan's face. But just as he did, Caleb intercepted it.

"Bastard, how dare you stop me?"

Caleb stood in front of Susan, towering over Aidan, exuding a powerful aura. "As long as I'm here, no one can harm her."

"I must teach this woman a lesson. Let go of me, let go!" Aidan used all his strength but couldn't free his hand. The physical disadvantage was a huge blow to him. He couldn't accept that he was old and powerless, and he feared losing control of his family, his son, and this woman entering their home.

Thinking of all this, anger and fear surged together, causing his heart to ache.

"Mr. Eilish."

"Mr. Caleb Eilish, please don't anger Mr. Aidan Eilish anymore. He just got out of the hospital. Do you want to send him back?"

"I'll kill you, you heartless bastard!" Aidan was still fuming, but he couldn't even catch his breath, let alone shout with any strength.

Susan had no time for Aidan's tantrum and was about to rush upstairs to find her son when Caleb grabbed her wrist.

"What do you want?"

"Caleb, let go of me."

"Let go of me, I'm not leaving. I want to find Oliver."

"Oliver, Oliver..." Caleb dragged her out to the garden.

"Let go of me!" Susan yanked her hand away and tried to rush back inside, but Caleb blocked her path.

Susan, like a desperate mother hen, angrily tried to push him away. "Move!"

"Get out of the way, Caleb!"

"Don't think I won't hit you," Susan roared. For her son, she'd do anything.

"Oliver is safe here. My parents will take good care of him."

Susan's face twisted in anger. "What do you mean? Are you going to keep him? Are you going to take him away?"

"This is just temporary."

"No, this is just the first step of your plan. Next, you'll keep delaying me—a day, a week, a month—and then you'll never let me see Oliver again..." Susan's voice grew more frantic.

"It's not what you think." Caleb tried to comfort her, but as soon as his hands touched her shoulders, Susan dodged like he was a demon, angry and scared. "Stop lying to me, it's exactly as I said."

"I won't let them take Oliver, Susan..."

"Then let me take Oliver now!" Susan roared, "Otherwise, everything you say is a lie."

"You saw my dad's condition just now; he has a heart condition."

"He didn't look like someone with a heart condition when he was insulting me. He's faking it, a murderer pretending to be weak. I'm the victim. I am!" Susan had shouted enough, now completely at a loss.

After cursing, Susan's nose twitched, and she started crying again. She didn't know what to do. She knew Oliver was here, very close to her, but she had no way to see him.

What pained her the most was knowing that besides being angry and shouting, she could do nothing. With just one word, they could make sure she never saw her son again.

Susan's tears of grievance and fear streamed down her face.

"Caleb, I'm begging you, give Oliver back to me. He's my life; I can't live without him."

"My family has already disowned me. Oliver is my only family, my only one..." She sobbed, "I shouldn't have brought him back. Give him back to me, and we'll leave, okay? I swear I'll never appear in front of you again. Please, Caleb."

She clutched his arm, crying and pleading like a child with nowhere to turn.

Each sob tore at Caleb's heart.

He was too cruel. If he hadn't deceived Susan from the start, she wouldn't be in such pain now. Maybe she would have married someone a thousand times better than him, someone who cherished her, loved her, and remained faithful to her.

He deserved to be cut into pieces!

"Susan, listen to me..."

"I don't want to listen." Susan covered her ears. "I just want Oliver, I just want him."

Caleb pulled her hands down. "Look at me. I swear on my life, I will never let my family take Oliver away. I will give Oliver a complete home, a good environment to grow up in."

'I will marry you,' Caleb murmured in his heart.

"Give me three days, and I promise you'll see Oliver."
