Chapter 510 Inner Inferiority
Little Oliver was as delicate as a porcelain doll, and the Wilsons were totally smitten with him. Carol had Oliver on her lap, feeding him ravioli one bite at a time.
"Oliver, how's it taste?" Carol asked softly.
"Grandma, it's awesome! But I've already had like ten pieces, I can't eat anymore," Oliver said, patting his round little belly.
Maurice, all warm and fuzzy, said, "If you're full, don't push it. You don't wanna get a tummy ache."
"Okay, Grandpa, I'll eat more tomorrow," Oliver replied.
Carol chimed in, "Susan, if it's cool with you, let Oliver hang out here for a bit."
Susan nodded, "As long as you don't mind the noise, he can totally stay."
Carol smiled, "Not at all. Your dad likes it quiet, but I think the house is too empty. Having a kid around makes it lively. Oliver, wanna stay at Grandma's? I'll make more ravioli for you."
Oliver looked up at Carol. "I'd love to, a hundred times over."
Maurice laughed heartily. He hadn't felt this happy in ages, with his daughter and grandson around, soaking up the family vibes.
Maurice thought he needed to pick a successor for his principal position soon so he could chill at home and enjoy his family.
"I don't go back to work until next Monday, so I'll be home with you guys this weekend," Susan said.
"That's perfect. Your room's just like it used to be. We have the housekeeper clean it every day," Carol said, glancing at Maurice.
Maurice cleared his throat, trying to play it cool.
"Dad..." Susan felt a wave of emotion. She knew her father had never really let her go; he just didn't show it.
Maurice felt a bit awkward. "Let's not dig up the past."
"Okay."
After dinner, Maurice and Carol played with Oliver. Caleb helped Susan carry her luggage upstairs.
Susan opened the door to her room, which was green. Despite having a princess heart, she had always loved green since she was a kid. The light green walls made the whole room look super fresh.
Susan's eyes lit up. "Wow, it's been so long since I came back. I missed my room and my cello so much," Susan said, going over to kiss her cello.
There wasn't a speck of dust on the case, showing how well it was kept.
"Didn't you learn piano?" Caleb asked.
"Yeah, but don't forget my mom's a musician. How could I be her daughter if I didn't know at least three instruments?" Susan said playfully, winking. "I started learning instruments when I was three."
"So it's time to plan for Oliver now," Caleb said.
Susan smiled. "Are you still salty because Oliver said he'd be better than you?"
"No, I'm doing it for his own good," Caleb retorted.
'And for a little revenge,' he thought.
"Yeah, I also think kids should learn an instrument. Oliver is so handsome, and if he can play an instrument, he'll charm countless girls," Susan said excitedly, waving her hands.
Caleb's eye twitched. 'Is this really a good idea?' He silently worried for other people's daughters.
"Oh, and my books," Susan said excitedly, pulling a book from the large bookshelf and opening it to smell it.
"So many books," Caleb was surprised.
Susan explained, "Yeah. My dad's a scholar, and I was influenced by him from a young age, reading famous works from all over."
Caleb, being tall, casually pulled a romance novel from the top shelf's corner and raised an eyebrow, "The Bossy CEO's Little Sweetheart, huh? This is some interesting literature."
Susan's face turned bright red. Caleb had such sharp eyes, finding it even when it was hidden in the corner. She quickly stood on tiptoe, her face blushed, and snatched it back, hiding it in a drawer. "Why are you taking my books? So annoying."
Facing his amused gaze, she felt even more embarrassed. "What girl doesn't dream of romance? Everyone read these kinds of books in high school, okay?"
When she first encountered them, it was like a new world opened up for her. She could only read them secretly, fearing her dad would find out.
"Well, congrats then. You've fulfilled your high school dream and found yourself a bossy CEO," Caleb said, placing his hands on either side of her, trapping her against the desk.
At 6 feet tall, he completely blocked Susan's view, and all she could see was his strong chest.
Trapped in his arms, Susan's heart began to race again.
It beat faster and faster.
Her face turned red, her thin skin like a tempting red apple, tantalizing Caleb's taste buds.
"What are you doing..." Susan asked.
"What do you think?" Caleb looked down at her, enjoying her subtle expressions, clearly not planning to let her go.
"This is my house, don't do anything crazy."
"The door is closed. Don't worry," Caleb said, lifting her chin with his fingers, leaning in, his lips hovering just above hers, teasing, his breath tantalizing, his voice sexy, "Don't you want to be kissed by a bossy CEO?"
"Hey, you—"
Susan was kissed. The kiss was gentle and lingering. She was stunned, forgetting to push him away, and gradually melted in his arms.
All she could hear was his breathing and heartbeat, and she was intoxicated by his alluring scent, like drinking fine wine.
It wasn't until they fell onto the soft bed that Susan hazily realized her dangerous situation.
"Stop, this is my house..." Susan said, her hands on his chest, her face red, her eyes shy and nervous.
"I know, otherwise you'd be naked by now," Caleb said with a mischievous smile. He wanted her, every cell in his body wanted her.
Caleb propped himself up on one arm beside her head, gazing at her tenderly.
Susan felt that his gaze was even more disarming than his kiss, making her whole body feel soft and tingly.
Caleb's eyes were like potent poison, making her unable to resist.
After another lingering kiss on her lips, Caleb finally rolled to the side. If they continued, he feared he wouldn't be able to control himself.
Susan looked at the ceiling and suddenly laughed.
"What are you laughing at?" Caleb turned his head to look at her.
"I never thought I'd be lying on my own bed with you like this. It feels so magical." This feeling was surprisingly good.
Caleb silently held her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers, one by one, until they were tightly clasped.
They smiled at each other.
Sweetness flowed silently between them, bringing a sense of security and peace.
Susan lay with her eyes closed for a while, then prepared to get up. "I need to check on my sister."
"There's nothing to see." Caleb said.
Susan explained, "May is feeling off. She might feel left out. She's more sensitive, so I need to spend some time with her."
Caleb looked at her and asked, "Have you ever thought that this might backfire?"
"What?"
Caleb explained, "May's feelings come from her own insecurities."
