Chapter 774 It Was Not Me
Juniper felt a twinge of panic. By the time she realized what Saffron was about to do and tried to stop her, it was too late.
Saffron suddenly took a step back, shouting, "Juniper, don't push me... Juniper—"
She curled her lips into a wicked smile, then let out a scream and tumbled down the stairs.
Juniper tried to grab her but was too late; her hand reached out into the air, unable to catch her.
To the few people rushing over, it looked like Juniper had pushed Saffron down the stairs.
"Saffron!"
"My son!" Saffron rolled down the stairs, landing in a pool of blood.
At the hospital emergency room entrance.
Juniper felt a chill in her heart.
Although she hadn't pushed Saffron, seeing her tumble down the stairs, covered in blood, still left her shaken.
Saffron was ruthless. Not only to herself but even to her own child. Even if it was a daughter, she shouldn't have...
She felt sorry for the child. With a mother like that, life would be nothing but suffering.
Elara paced anxiously. They had planned to use Juniper to get rid of the child, but they hadn't fully figured out how to do it. Saffron's sudden action was unexpected.
Her belly was so big; falling like that could be fatal.
Elara couldn't stop crying and lunged at Juniper, "You heartless witch, Saffron is pregnant, and you pushed her down the stairs. How could you be so inhumane!"
She continued, "You're so vicious! Juniper, you killed my grandchild! If anything happens to Saffron, I'll kill you!"
A nurse held Elara back, "Mrs. Cooper, please calm down."
"How can I calm down when she hurt my daughter and grandchild?"
"Juniper, you will be punished! You're worse than an animal!"
Douglas was also furious, "Juniper, I didn't expect you to hold a grudge for so long and take it out on my son. Aren't you afraid of karma? If you have a problem, come at me. Why hurt my son?"
Juniper looked at him calmly, "First, she's having a daughter, not a son. Second, I didn't push her; she fell on purpose to frame me."
"You're lying! The fortune teller said it's a boy. You just don't want Saffron to marry well and are afraid she'll have a son to share the inheritance, so you pushed her. You're insane for money, pretending you don't care about the inheritance. You're a hypocrite!"
Juniper said, "She admitted before falling that she's having a daughter and that she was framing me."
"You, you won't admit your wrongdoing! Who would harm themselves like that? She's four months pregnant; falling could be fatal!"
"I really admire her ruthlessness." Juniper shook her head and sneered.
"You're so cruel! My poor Saffron... What did you do in your past life to deserve this, being harmed by this vile woman and then blamed for it..." Elara cried hysterically, her heart breaking.
The doctor came out.
"How is my daughter?" Elara rushed forward.
"Did my son survive?" Douglas only cared about the son.
"Ms. Cooper had severe bleeding. We've given her a transfusion, and she's out of danger, but the baby is gone," the doctor said, shaking his head.
"My grandchild..." Elara wailed.
"My son!" Douglas glared at Juniper with bloodshot eyes, gritting his teeth, "Juniper, I won't let you get away with this!"
Juniper walked to a quiet corner alone.
Her heart was heavy.
She felt sorry for the unborn child.
Witnessing that scene, she would probably have nightmares for a long time.
A hand gently patted her back.
"Dad, it really wasn't me..." Juniper hurried to explain.
"Dad believes you. Maybe it's for the best. Douglas is unreliable, and losing the child might be a blessing in disguise for Saffron to leave him," Aaron sighed.
"Do you really believe I didn't push her?"
"Yes, you're kind-hearted. You would never do such a thing."
Juniper felt a bit relieved, "Dad, thank you for believing in me. I... I feel so awful."
She leaned into Aaron's embrace like a child seeking warmth, "Is it wrong to have a daughter? That's her own flesh and blood. How could she be so cruel?"
"Everyone has different thoughts and pursuits. You can't control that. Daughters are wonderful. Look at how excellent you are. You'll always be my pride."
"Thank you, Dad."
Juniper didn't sleep that night. Around eight in the morning, she received a video call from Brice.
He was startled by her haggard appearance, "Honey, did you not sleep last night? You have dark circles. Where are you?"
"The hospital."
"The hospital?" Brice panicked, "Why are you at the hospital? Are you sick? I'm booking a flight now."
"I'm fine. It's just some family issues."
"Didn't your dad get discharged? Is his condition worse?"
"It's not him. It's..." She paused, then continued, "My family situation is complicated. I don't know how to explain it to you."
"I'm your boyfriend. I want you to tell me anything that upsets you so I can share the burden. That's what a boyfriend should do."
"Telling you won't help." Juniper smiled bitterly.
"At least you'll feel better. Tell me, okay?"
Juniper, feeling overwhelmed, told Brice about Saffron.
Brice was shocked, "I can't believe your half-sister is so ruthless, even to her own child. Why does your family have a rule that only sons can inherit?"
He comforted, "I prefer daughters. I hope we have three daughters in the future, and I'll spoil them like princesses. This has nothing to do with you. You don't need to feel guilty. It's enough that your dad believes you."
"But those two women won't stop arguing." Juniper shook her head, feeling a headache, "Since I came home, they haven't been quiet for a moment, always fighting over the will."
"Yes, money reveals everyone's true nature, especially those who are already greedy. Do you need me to come and help you?"
Juniper shook her head, "It's already complicated. I don't want you to get involved and make it worse."
"But I'm worried about you. I'm afraid you'll be bullied."
Juniper smiled faintly, "Do I look like someone who would let herself be bullied?"
"But you're alone, and they're ganging up on you. No matter how strong you are..."
"My dad is helping me. I'm not alone. Don't worry about me. You have enough on your plate with the project. Don't get distracted by my issues. I'm fine."
Brice reached out, touching her face on the screen with concern, "You look so haggard. You're not fine."
"I'm okay."
Brice, feeling heartbroken, said, "You need to get some sleep."
"Yes, I know."
"Ms. Saffron Cooper is awake," a nurse came to inform her.
"I have to go now." Juniper hung up the phone.
