Chapter 646: Fighting a War of Attrition
"Yo, is it us who got no shame, or is it you?" Elara practically yelled, "Mr. Eilish, I ain't making stuff up. If you don't believe me, I got pics. Look, they're practically making out at the bar. How can you call that innocent?"
As Elara waved the photos around, Saffron jumped in, "But it had to be Juniper who seduced Douglas."
No matter how much of a jerk Douglas was, he was still her kid's dad, and she didn't want her kid growing up without a father.
Juniper's face went pale, and she stammered, "I've already explained. That day, Douglas brought another chick to the bar, and I just happened to see them. I thought I'd snap a pic secretly, but I got caught, and that's why this photo exists. How could I possibly... with a guy who betrayed me..."
"There are tons of bars in City A, and you just happened to run into them? What a load of crap. If you're gonna lie, at least make it believable. You just wanna get back at Saffron and make her kid fatherless. How cruel. Mr. Eilish, you can't let this wicked woman off the hook!"
Elara was sure Anthony would lose it after seeing the photos, but he just laughed coldly, "What can these staged photos prove? Ridiculous."
"Isn't it obvious enough? Mr. Eilish, you can't be fooled by her," Elara shouted, eyes wide.
Why were guys always falling for Juniper's act? Did she have some kind of love potion? The photos were crystal clear, yet they still believed her. It was nuts!
"Since I chose Juniper, I trust her completely. People like you, with hidden agendas, are nothing but clowns to me," Anthony sneered, "And you dare to cause trouble at my company. Bold move."
"Mr. Eilish, we..."
"Listen up: Juniper is my partner. Anyone who messes with her messes with me. Can you handle the consequences of going against me?"
Elara and Saffron were fuming inside, but they didn't dare cross Anthony, so they acted all meek, "No, we don't dare, Mr. Eilish..."
They were boiling with rage inside.
Anthony had the security guards toss them out.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Eilish. I've caused trouble for the company. I'll resign," Juniper said, feeling guilty.
He had just trusted her completely and stood up for her, which made her even more determined not to be a burden.
"Why?"
"I, I already said, I've caused a negative impact on the company. People here will definitely talk about this..."
"So what?"
Juniper was stunned.
"Punishing yourself for someone else's mistake is dumb. I only care about your skills; I don't care about anything else," Anthony added.
Juniper's eyes welled up, almost tearing up.
Anthony, he was really something.
Despite his tough exterior, she sensed a protective instinct in him towards her.
"It's all good now, get back to work."
"Thank you, Mr. Eilish," Juniper said, bowing.
As soon as she left the office, her colleagues gave her weird looks, probably thinking she was the type to steal a pregnant woman's boyfriend. Her pretty face was a double-edged sword, sometimes causing her trouble and often making her a target for other women.
But she had a clear conscience and wouldn't explain herself. Even if she did, it wouldn't change their minds. People only believe what they want to believe.
Juniper went back to her desk, still fuming about Elara and Saffron, and called Aaron.
"I'm so pissed. What kinda spell did that vixen cast on Mr. Eilish? The big boss of a huge company getting played by a woman. And he's protecting her. I thought we could totally ruin Juniper today, but we just ended up looking like fools," Elara fumed.
Elara kept griping, which got on Saffron's nerves, "It was your dumb idea."
"How was it a dumb idea? You were all in yesterday. Saffron, everything I do is for you and your kid. Don't pin this on me. My plan was solid. The problem is that vixen Juniper, she's so good at seducing men and always getting lucky..." Elara started rambling again.
Saffron snapped, "Enough, I don't wanna hear her name again."
"You two went to the Eilish Group to stir up trouble?" Aaron stormed in, fuming.
Saffron quickly hid behind Elara, "I, I didn't. I went to stop Mom from causing trouble."
Elara stood her ground, "That's right. Juniper seduced my son-in-law, and I stood up for my daughter. What's wrong with that? Unlike you, who only cares about money. I can't swallow this anger. I have to get justice for my daughter."
"You fool, do you know how much damage you've done to the Cooper Group by ruining this marriage? You did this just to vent your anger, you idiot."
"I don't care about the damage. I only know I have to get justice for my daughter!"
"I, I'll slap you to death today!" Aaron raised his hand, slapping Elara to the ground.
Elara covered her face, "How dare you hit me?"
Aaron had never laid a hand on her before.
"Dad," Saffron wanted to intervene, but her fury was a tangible force, silencing her.
"Get out of the way. If I don't teach you a lesson today, the Cooper family will be ruined by you!" Aaron shouted.
"All you care about is money. I'll fight you!" Elara wasn't backing down either.
She pounced on Aaron like a wildcat, and they fought fiercely.
Elara got a few slaps on her face, and Aaron's face was scratched with blood marks.
"Be gentle," Elara was bruised and swollen.
"Mom, you should have backed down to Dad earlier. Why did you fight him? How can a woman win against a man? You'd be the one to suffer." Saffron applied medicine to Elara.
"I was just too angry. That old man only cares about money. You're his own daughter..."
Saffron pouted, "Hasn't he always favored Juniper?"
"Exactly! What's so good about that little witch? She looks just like her mother, both good at seducing men!" Elara said angrily, "Your dad found out about this so quickly. It must have been Juniper who tattled. That little witch, she's quick to snitch. She even knows how to use your dad against me. So cunning."
"Isn't Juniper always cunning?"
"Now Juniper has become Mr. Eilish's secretary, she's close to him, sticking to him every day. Mr. Eilish is so bewitched by her that he can't tell right from wrong. Your dad is also protecting her. No wonder she's so arrogant. What should we do? Just watch?"
Saffron narrowed her eyes, "Just watch? No way. I want her to live in misery. But we need to change our strategy. We can't confront her directly like before. That's too stupid. That witch is so cunning, so we need to be smarter."
"You're right. Direct confrontation will only make us suffer. We need to think long-term and plan a prolonged battle."
Saffron nodded.
