Chapter 325 Walking Out Together
This is where Owen had his car accident.
The scene of him being hit and falling into a pool of blood flashed before Layla's eyes once again.
She couldn't!!!
Layla tried to pull her hand out in a hurry, but Samuel held it even tighter.
"Let go of me, Samuel."
"I can't stay here."
"Let go of me." She kept shouting anxiously.
"Layla, you must face your inner fears."
"I don't want to let Owen down." Layla cried, "I can't do it."
"You can. If Owen could see you now from heaven, he wouldn't want to see you tormenting yourself like this. Layla, Owen has passed away, which is a fact that cannot be changed. But you, you must live better." Samuel kept holding her sweaty and trembling hand tightly.
"Look at me!
"Lift your head!"
Samuel held her shoulders. "Look at me."
Layla raised her tearful eyes, tears streaming down her face, filled with fear and self-blame.
"It will pass. Face it first, then forgive yourself, okay? Layla, you can do it.
"I will walk through this with you."
Samuel embraced her, whispering in her ear repeatedly, "I will always be by your side."
On the street, people coming and going, two of them were like sailboats on the sea, relying on each other.
They walked back home, and Samuel escorted Layla to the entrance.
"You don't need to take me upstairs; just leave me here." Layla's emotions had gradually calmed down, but her eyes were still red and swollen like walnuts.
"Okay."
Samuel took the nutritional supplements handed by the driver. "Take these, eat them on time every day. I will send you a reminder in the morning. Make sure you eat before going out."
"Okay." Layla nodded, "Good night."
"Good night." Samuel kissed her forehead again and watched her enter the building.
Their relationship seemed to be a bit closer.
The next morning, there was a meeting at the Sheeran Group. Layla went back to the company to get some documents. When she was about to leave, she opened the back door, and Fanny was sitting in the back, stopping her. "You drive."
"Don't we have a driver?"
"Our company only has one driver; it's better to let him stay at the company. What if Levi needs to go out?"
"But Levi assigned this car to us. If he needs it, he wouldn't have assigned it to us."
"That's not necessarily true. Of course, the boss's decision prevails. What? Are you more important than the boss?" Fanny sneered, "You're a newcomer; it's only natural for you to drive."
Layla ignored her and got into the back seat directly. "I don't have a driver's license. I can't drive."
"Are you kidding me? Is there still someone who can't drive now?"
"No one is born knowing how to drive. If you can drive, then you drive."
"But I'm the director." Fanny was getting angry.
"Either you drive, or you call the driver back." Layla didn't cater to Fanny and glanced at her phone. "Half an hour left, do you want to be late?"
"You." Fanny gritted her teeth, had to call the driver back, and mumbled, "As you can't even drive a car, I think you're no different from trash. How ridiculous."
Layla ignored her and took out the documents to read.
Soon, the driver arrived. "Didn't you say you didn't need me?"
"Drive your car. Stop asking!" Fanny snapped.
"But I have my things to do."
"What can a lousy driver like you have to do? Your job is to drive. If I ask you to drive, you drive. Why are you talking so much?"
"If you keep babbling, I'll get Levi to fire you." Fanny vented her anger at the driver.
The driver frowned but dared not speak up. Fanny had a bad reputation in the company, even fiercer than the boss. He would always be scolded every time he drove her. She was like a shrew and he didn't understand why the boss liked her.
'I wouldn't want this kind of woman to be my girlfriend.' He thought.
Half an hour later, they arrived at the Sheeran Group.
When getting out of the car, Layla said, "Thank you. You've been very helpful."
The driver felt warm inside. "No problem. You're welcome."
Fanny rolled her eyes coldly. "Don't pretend to be grateful."
Then she turned around with a flattering smile. "Oh, Nathaniel, why are you here today? I've been here every day last week, always greeted by your assistant, saying you were busy and couldn't meet me; I finally get to see you today."
Fanny nodded and bowed to shake hands with Nathaniel, who treated her as if she were invisible. Instead, Nathaniel politely welcomed Layla. "Miss Adkins, thank you for your hard work."
Fanny's face froze at that moment, her hand still hanging in the air, her eye twitching.
'What's going on?' She pondered.
Fanny had speculated before that Layla might be Nathaniel's confidant, but seeing Nathaniel's respectful attitude toward her now, could it be that Layla had a bigger backer than Nathaniel?
Fanny pondered silently.
Nathaniel warmly inquired about Layla, "Is it too early for a meeting in the morning? If it's inconvenient for you, we can schedule the meeting for 3 p.m. in the future, so you'll have time to rest in the morning and noon."
This made Fanny even more displeased.
'Are you complaining about a 9 a.m. meeting being too early? We used to arrive at the Sheeran Group at 8 a.m. Who is Layla to deserve this special treatment?'
'Damn it.' She thought.
Fanny was unwilling but forced a smile and approached, "Nathaniel, I'm Fanny. You know me, right? I'm the design director at Shang Ming."
Fanny subtly pushed Layla aside. Nathaniel saw it and coldly said to her, "I don't know you. I only know Miss Adkins, the one with whom I signed the contract. I don't remember miscellaneous people, which is my habit."
Hearing this, Fanny's face darkened a few shades, but she had to hold back, feeling resentful but not daring to explode.
"Miss Adkins, this way, please."
"Thank you." Layla glanced at Fanny's resentful face, feeling a sense of satisfaction.
Fanny stomped her foot in place, then followed into the office, almost getting her foot caught by Nathaniel's door. Fanny felt herself not only redundant but also annoying to others. However, she wouldn't quit just because of this.
Nathaniel took his seat in the big chair. "Miss Adkins, would you like something to drink? Tea or coffee?"
"Just warm water, thank you"
Nathaniel had his secretary pour a glass of warm water.
'Just one glass? What about me?' Fanny felt dissatisfied.
Layla took out the design drawings. "Nathaniel, this is the latest version of the design drawings. Please take a look."
Before Layla could finish speaking, Fanny snatched the design drawings. "Nathaniel, I drew these design drawings. Let me explain."
Fanny tried to speak up, but Nathaniel gave her a cold look. "Miss Adkins, the person from your company is so rude. I'm talking to you. why is she interrupting?"
"But I'm the director. Layla is just a designer. I'm her superior."
"How can someone who doesn't even understand basic manners become a director?"
"I…"
"Miss Adkins, let's continue."
"Okay." Layla didn't even spare a glance at Fanny.
After enduring for a while, Fanny couldn't help but speak up again, "Nathaniel, about this design."
"Why are you still here? Get out. Get out!"
"I'm also one of the project leaders. How can you ask me to leave?" Fanny couldn't hold back her anger anymore and raised her voice in protest. "You're out of line. This is unfair."
