Chapter 477 Just Jealous
"Francis?" Susan's eyes lit up.
Caleb's reaction was the opposite; his eyes darkened.
What was he doing here?
"Francis, come in!" Susan said, clearly thrilled. They hadn't seen each other in months.
"Am I interrupting?"
"Glad you know," Caleb muttered.
Susan shot him a glare. "You're the one who shouldn't be here."
"Francis, have a seat," Susan said, pulling a chair to her bedside.
Caleb was annoyed. She never pulled a chair for him, always making him stand, but she was all smiles for Francis.
"These are for you," Francis handed her flowers.
Susan beamed. "Thank you, you remembered I love pink roses."
"Of course I remember." He had liked her for years and knew all her preferences.
Caleb smirked coldly. "When I gave you pink roses, you said you hated them."
"It depends on who gives them. I like them when Francis does," Susan said, just to irritate him.
Caleb's face darkened even more.
"Francis, is that a cherry cake for me?"
"Yes."
"I love this cake."
Caleb thought Susan was the most fickle, two-faced woman he'd ever met. She was just trying to annoy him.
Francis noticed Oliver had almost finished the cake in his hand and felt awkward. Who would've thought they'd end up with the same cake?
"Mr. Eilish also brought you a cake?"
"Yes, but I didn't eat it. I don't eat his."
"Are you sure you didn't eat it?" Caleb raised an eyebrow. This woman, eating and then denying it?
"I said from the start I wouldn't eat it. Oliver insisted I try it. Francis, thanks for the cake." Susan took it and started eating happily.
Caleb wanted to throw it away.
Bought cake versus homemade, can they even compare?
Heartless woman.
Susan ate the cake, glancing at Caleb from the corner of her eye. "Francis and I need to talk. You should leave."
"Why can't you talk in front of me?"
"Why should we? Don't you think you're being unnecessary standing there?"
"I don't think so." Caleb thought Francis was the unnecessary one. If it weren't for Francis coming to him about Oliver, he would've thrown him out by now. Caleb was possessive over his woman.
"Then you have no self-awareness. Get out."
"If anyone's leaving, it's him."
"Francis is my guest."
Caleb straightened up. "Then what am I?"
Susan replied, "Do you even need to ask? You're the one harassing me."
Caleb was stunned.
Francis felt he couldn't stay any longer, as if there were needles under his seat. "I have something to do, I'll go first..."
"Francis, don't go." Susan frowned at Caleb. "I told you to leave, why are you so annoying?"
"Uncle Caleb, come with me to get some sun. Let's go." Oliver grabbed Caleb's hand and finally managed to drag him out.
"That guy, so clueless." Susan shook her head.
Francis smiled. "You're probably the only one who dislikes Mr. Eilish so much."
"He's naturally annoying."
"All the socialites want to marry Caleb."
"They want to marry into the Eilish family, not Caleb the jerk."
"Mr. Eilish is very handsome and charming."
"All I see is an annoying pest. You saw how shameless he was just now."
"That's because Mr. Eilish loves you."
Susan's heart skipped a beat. "I don't like him."
"Whether you like it or not, Mr. Eilish loves you. A proud man like him wouldn't lower his dignity unless he loved you deeply."
Susan sneered, "Just because he lowers his dignity, I should forgive everything and fall into his arms? I'm not that desperate."
"But it's inevitable."
"Francis, do you think I have no dignity?" Susan asked, feeling uneasy.
"No, you're very self-respecting. But you can't escape love; you love Mr. Eilish."
"I won't love a liar who ruined my life," Susan shot back.
"But people often fall for those they shouldn't. I can tell you love him."
Susan suddenly felt drained. After a few seconds, she said, "I used to love him, but not anymore."
"I'm talking about now. It's hard to see clearly when you're involved, but as an outsider, I can see your feelings for Mr. Eilish. He's already divorced for you; there's no more obstacle between you two."
Susan smiled bitterly. "Who says there's no obstacle? His deceit will always stand between us."
"Susan, life is long, and people make mistakes. You have to learn to let go, to forgive, or you'll ruin your future happiness."
Susan muttered, "I understand, but I just can't do it."
Did she love Caleb?
The more she denied it, the clearer it became.
She had loved him four years ago, had loved and hated him for the past four years, and still did now. If she hadn't loved him, how could she have hated him? The two were inseparable.
Falling for him was her inescapable fate.
"Susan, I'm not saying this to force you. I just hope your life won't be filled with regrets. Of course, I believe you'll make the right choice. I'm here to say goodbye this time."
"Goodbye? Where are you going?"
"Back to Novaria. My work here is done. I planned to stay, but because of some things..." Francis didn't want to say it was because of her. He had come back because of her, but now that she didn't need him, there was no reason to stay.
"I see..." Susan sighed. "But maybe I'll go back to Novaria soon, and we can still meet."
"Yes." Francis nodded. "You're always welcome in Novaria."
"Francis, the money I borrowed from you..."
"Mr. Eilish already transferred it to me."
"When did that happen?"
"A while ago. Mr. Eilish has done many things for you in secret."
Susan felt uneasy. "I don't need it." She wanted to repay the money herself; she didn't want to owe him.
"Whether you need it or not, when you love someone, you're willing to give them everything. Susan, you and Mr. Eilish are destined to be together."
Downstairs.
Caleb stared at the window on the fifth floor.
What were they talking about? Just thinking about Susan's smile made him uncomfortable. Even though he knew part of it was to annoy him, her happiness at seeing Francis was real.
"Uncle Caleb, you seem very unhappy."
Susan said meaningfully, "When you have someone you like in the future, you'll understand."
Oliver immediately added, "What's so hard to understand? Uncle Caleb, you're just jealous."
