Chapter 538 Half Determination
Tyler was caught off guard for a sec and asked, "Why you asking that?"
"Eh, just popped into my head," May shrugged, trying to play it cool.
After a bit of silence, May nudged him again, "You gonna answer me or what?"
"You two are sisters; it's tough to compare," Tyler said, looking a bit uncomfortable.
"Don't sweat it, I won't spill. Just tell me."
Tyler thought for a moment and then said, "You both are amazing, beautiful, and independent. But if I gotta choose, I'd say you got the edge."
"Of course you'd say that since I'm the one asking," May laughed. "If Susan asked, you'd probably say she has the edge."
Tyler shot back, "If she asked, I'd dodge the question. But honestly, I think you're better. My biggest flaw and strength is that I'm too honest; I only speak the truth."
May felt a secret thrill. "Really? So, what makes me better than her?"
"Well, for starters, I dig your classic look. Plus, you run several music studios on your own, which is more successful than Susan's gig. And I like your vibe more—gentle, generous, but still reserved. Bottom line, I'm super happy with you. If you two were side by side, I'd only have eyes for you," Tyler said all in one go.
May was in a great mood. It was rare to find someone with such good taste.
But she couldn't help but feel a bit annoyed, thinking, 'Why is Caleb so clueless?'
She told herself not to compare, as it would ruin her mood. She was feeling too good right now.
"We're here," Tyler said as he parked the car.
May looked outside and gasped, "Are you taking me to the Moon Restaurant? This place is the priciest in town, third most expensive in the world. A dinner here costs at least $200,000, and you gotta book six months ahead..."
"Yep, for our first solo date, I had to pick a top spot. I own some shares in this place, so no waiting."
May was even more shocked that Tyler had shares in the restaurant.
Sitting in the romantic restaurant, with a killer night view, candlelight dinner, and champagne, May was almost swooning.
If Tyler hadn't brought her here, she might never have set foot in such a swanky place.
A $200,000 meal? She couldn't even dream of spending that much, and without status, she wouldn't even get in.
May took a sip of red wine, feeling a bit light-headed. Even without Caleb, she could still enjoy a candlelight dinner at the Moon Restaurant and mingle with the elite. After marriage, Tyler surely wouldn't skimp on luxury cars, bags, jewelry, and other fancy stuff.
Though not as prestigious as the Eilish family, she could still become the much-envied Mrs. Thompson.
And Caleb was definitely more likely to cheat than Tyler.
Comparing the two, May felt that marrying Tyler wasn't a bad choice.
May said, "This red wine is really rich; it must be pricey."
"Not too bad, $400,000 a bottle."
'So loaded,' May thought.
After a few glasses of wine, May was almost floating. By the end of the dinner, she thought, 'Maybe dating Tyler isn't a bad idea; I could give him a shot.'
When they went downstairs, the driver was already waiting.
May sat in the back seat. Maybe because she was in such a good mood, she was a bit tipsy. She loved the high-society life, the fancy dinners, the fine wine, and especially the envious looks from others.
"Are you buzzed?" Tyler whispered in her ear.
"Maybe a bit," May replied.
"If you're tired, you can crash on my shoulder for a bit."
In the dim light, Tyler looked extra handsome.
May's heart did a little flip. After a moment of hesitation, she slowly leaned her head on Tyler's right shoulder.
His shoulder was broad and comforting.
May had never had a shoulder to lean on, and it hit her hard. She longed for a guy who could take care of her, so she wouldn't have to be so exhausted, wouldn't have to compete with Susan, and wouldn't have to be jealous.
May felt drowsy but incredibly content.
Suddenly, she felt warm breath on her nose.
May looked up, and Tyler kissed her.
May almost closed her eyes, but at the last second, she shyly pulled away. "No, I'm not that kind of girl."
"I never thought you were, May. You're special to me. I just like you so much that I couldn't help myself," Tyler said, full of affection.
May was about to melt. "Let's wait until we're officially dating, okay?"
"Yeah, all good things are worth waiting for. May, I'm willing to wait for you."
Back at the Wilson house.
"May, why are you back so late? Have you been drinking?" Susan hurried over to support May.
"No need, I'm not drunk," May smiled sweetly.
"You went out with Mr. Thompson?" Susan asked.
"Yeah, he asked me out. We went to the Moon Restaurant."
"Really? That place must be amazing. Caleb and I haven't been there yet," Susan said, pulling May to sit down, eager for details. "How was tonight? It must have been super romantic."
Maybe it was the wine, or maybe she was already warming up to Tyler, but May didn't find Susan as annoying and shared, "Of course. A $200,000 dinner and $400,000 a bottle of red wine, how could it not be romantic?"
It was the first time a guy had spent so much on her; it was the most romantic night of her life, one May would never forget.
"He must really like you."
"Yeah, he's practically head over heels for me," May laughed proudly.
Susan was genuinely happy to hear this. She could sense that May had no walls up tonight. She wondered, 'Did I do the right thing? As long as May has sweet love, she won't be as sensitive as before, right?'
"And what about you? Do you like him too?" Susan asked.
"He's alright, not bad."
"So are you thinking about giving him a shot?" Susan continued.
May thought for a moment and asked, "What do you think?"
Susan sincerely said, "I have a good impression of Mr. Thompson. If he could be my brother-in-law, that would be awesome. But the most important thing is that you like him."
"Then, for your sake, I'll reluctantly give him a chance. I'll check him out for a few more days, and if I think he's good, I might consider marrying him." May suddenly didn't want to compete anymore; it was too exhausting, and after all she'd done, she still couldn't surpass Susan.
Instead of being mistreated in this family, it would be better to move out and start her own. Out of sight, out of mind. She had always wanted a real home of her own.
And if she didn't see Susan and Caleb, she wouldn't think about comparing herself to them. In the future, she might even move to Libertonia with Tyler, completely breaking away from the Wilson family.
If Tyler pampered and loved her, she would definitely be happy.
The more May thought about it, the more she felt that Tyler was a solid marriage prospect.
She had already partially decided!
