Chapter 885 Can't Bear to Leave Him
While having dinner with Anthony in the evening, Juniper casually asked, "Have you been flirting with any other women lately?"
"Other women?" Anthony chuckled, "I've been so swamped with work, where would I find the time to flirt with other women?"
"But even if you don't flirt with them, they might come to you. Like young girls, for example."
"Young girls?"
"Yeah, like the young girl from the Elise family."
Anthony thought for a moment before asking, "You mean Brynn?"
"Brynn? You call her that affectionately," Juniper said with a half-smile, her steak knife already restless in her hand.
"We've known each other since we were kids. I've always called her that."
"Childhood friends... I'm envious."
"Not really childhood friends. She went abroad when she was ten. We only saw each other occasionally during her summer breaks. Didn't I go abroad too? We've met no more than three times."
Juniper forced a smile, "You must be quite charming then. Only three times and she can't forget you."
"How do you know about her?"
"What? Afraid I'll find out?"
Anthony laughed. Juniper's unreasonable side was just so adorable.
"I haven't done anything wrong. I'm open and honest, why would I be afraid of you knowing? I'm just curious."
"Brynn is a client of my project. To be precise, I'm the contractor and she's the client. I have to cater to her. She's been giving me a hard time with all sorts of tricks."
Anthony frowned, "What? She's been doing that? I need to teach her a lesson."
He took out his phone, but Juniper stopped him, "No need. Who am I? Do you think she can take advantage of me? Her little tricks are nothing to me. Besides, she's not a bad person, just a bit spoiled. She's actually quite cute. I'm not mad."
"You're only a year older than her, but you talk like you're ten years older."
"Age-wise, not much older, but I'm much more mature mentally," Juniper said. "Anyway, she's just a little girl throwing a tantrum. It's nothing."
"Still, I don't want her causing you any trouble."
"It's fine, not really trouble," Juniper said nonchalantly. "That little princess from the Elise family is quite cute. Aren't you tempted at all?"
Rhetorical question. Anthony smiled and said, "I'm not interested in princesses. I like queens."
"Good taste."
"But I'm happy you're jealous."
"Who said I'm jealous? Can't you see I don't care at all?"
"You were full of jealousy at the beginning," Anthony said, feeling quite pleased.
"You're overthinking it. I wouldn't get jealous."
"Haha, so cute. How about we sleep together tonight?"
"You said my body hasn't recovered yet, and now you can't wait?" Juniper had a look of "you're such a jerk."
"I didn't say we had to do anything."
"Do you think I'm stupid? I know exactly what you want to do."
"Really? Then tonight..."
"Tonight you sleep alone. I have to work tomorrow and figure out how to deal with your little princess. This is my second project and the most important one this quarter. I can't mess it up."
"Then I'll call her."
"Please, do you think I need your help to get the project? I'm not convinced."
"That's not what I meant. But if it weren't for my connection, the project would definitely be secured. So, I'm just making up for it."
"No need. There's no reason I can't handle the little princess," Juniper said, raising her chin at him. "Watch me."
"Just don't overwork yourself. If it doesn't work out, let me know. And stay with me tonight."
Juniper was exasperated, "You haven't forgotten? Didn't we change the subject?"
"I can't forget. I just want to be with you, every second counts," Anthony said tenderly. "Let's get married soon, so we can be together every day."
Waking up to see her, seeing her before bed, is there anything happier in the world?
Absolutely not.
The next day at the office, Brynn was in a gloomy mood.
"What's wrong? Not happy? You didn't even eat the cake I bought you," Eldon asked, patting her head.
He was so worried about her that even a frown from her made him anxious.
Any little emotion of hers, Eldon would magnify as if with a magnifying glass.
"Nothing, just suddenly feeling defeated, like I'm useless."
"Are you comparing yourself to Juniper?"
Brynn pouted, resting her chin on her hand.
"Silly, people are different. She has her strengths, and you have yours. There's no need to be like her."
"But I've never felt so useless before. We're about the same age, but she can earn money independently, while I still rely on my family to survive."
"Having someone to protect and take care of you is also a good thing." He wanted to cherish her innocence, her childishness, even her spoiled nature.
Eldon suddenly noticed a shallow scratch on her arm.
"What happened to your hand?"
"Nothing, just a scratch from yesterday," Brynn quickly pulled her hand back.
She was scared yesterday but didn't want to worry Eldon, so she didn't tell him about the incident in the restroom.
"How could you be so careless? I can't leave you alone for a moment," Eldon said, shaking his head in distress, and quickly brought the first aid kit to treat her wound.
Watching him focus, Brynn felt warm inside, "Eldon, you're so good to me. You care about me more than my dad and brother. You're the best person in the world to me."
"Isn't that how it should be? Taking care of you is my responsibility."
Brynn shook her head, "Nothing is taken for granted. You should be grateful when someone is good to you. I don't say it often, but I love you very, very much."
Love.
Eldon's heart trembled.
Then he told himself not to overthink it. The love she spoke of was familial, between friends.
"Eldon, what would I do if you weren't by my side in the future?" Brynn said with deep reluctance, as if someone was about to take away a piece of her flesh, a rib.
No, she didn't want him to leave her.
But how could she keep him by her side forever?
The only way to stay together for a lifetime is as a couple.
Brynn was startled by her own thought. How could that be!
Eldon had played many roles in her life: friend, family, brother, but never a husband.
Maybe because they grew up together, she had never considered this possibility until now.
Brynn suddenly felt a bit flustered and pulled her hand back, "That's enough, no need."
She was so nervous about her own thoughts that she swallowed hard.
"What's wrong? Your face suddenly looks strange. Did I hurt you?" Eldon asked worriedly.
His little princess was most afraid of pain. Even at eighteen, she would cry when getting a shot.
