In the hospital, Saffron lay weakly in bed, the miscarriage having taken a severe toll on her.
Irritated, she hung up the phone. "Douglas isn't answering my calls. Did he block me? He won't answer my calls, texts, or come see me. Is he just going to abandon me?"
Elara was calmer than her. "Isn't this normal? The 'son' in your belly is gone, which means you've lost your value. Plus, your dad is protecting Juniper, that bitch. There's nothing for him to gain from you anymore, so why would he waste his time?"
"That's so heartless," Saffron said bitterly. "I carried his child, after all."
"You knew he was a scumbag when you got involved with him, didn't you? Losing the baby and breaking up with him is a good thing. Otherwise, you'd be in for more pain in the future," Elara said, feeling sorry for her daughter but understanding the situation better due to her age.
If Saffron married such a man, it would ruin her life. Better to end the pain now and get rid of the child; she could still marry someone else in the future.
"That's true, but..."
"Do you really love him?"
Saffron thought for a moment and then said, "Not really. He wasn't that good to me. I only took him from Juniper because he was her boyfriend. I thought I was getting a good partner, but he turned out to be a scumbag."
"What good can come from Juniper's man? It's bad enough she brought misfortune upon herself, but she also dragged you into it. She's a curse," Elara said, frowning.
She added, "Don't have any feelings for him now. Think about how to get compensation from him. A son should be worth at least ten million dollars."
"Will he give it?"
"If he doesn't, we'll find a way to force him. You see, your dad is determined not to give us any shares. If we anger him, he might not even give us any money. I don't have much money myself, so we need to get as much as we can for the future. Men are unreliable; money in hand is what counts."

That afternoon, Elara managed to get Douglas to the hospital.
"What do you want?" Douglas plopped down on the couch, crossing his legs, looking impatient.
He had drunk a lot last night and spent the whole night with that girl, now his head was aching.
Seeing his attitude made the mother and daughter even angrier.
"What do I want? I had a miscarriage because of you, and you don't think you should come see me? You left me alone in the hospital."
"Isn't your mom and the nurses here?"
"You're my boyfriend. Don't you have a responsibility to take care of me?"
"I have to work."
"You work during the day, but what about at night? Partying every night?" Saffron said angrily.
She had always been submissive in front of Douglas, but her sudden aggressiveness made him unhappy. "That's socializing. How else do you think I make money?"
"Douglas, don't take me for a fool. I know all about your affairs with those women."
Douglas, who had been thinking of breaking up, saw an opportunity and pretended to be angry. "You're investigating me? I hate being investigated. Are you spying on me? I can't stand this. Let's break up."
Even a fool could see he was just making an excuse!
"You just want to break up," Saffron said, sitting up in anger. "I just had a miscarriage for you, and you want to break up? Are you even human?"
"What man can stand being spied on? I'm not a prisoner."
"Stop making excuses. You just see that I don't have a son anymore and no longer have any value to you. You want to find another woman to give you a child!"
"If that's what you think, I can't help it."
One sentence was enough to make the mother and daughter furious.
"Douglas, you're such a jerk," Elara said angrily. "Saffron loves you and has been faithful to you, but you still party around. She tolerated it, and you still talk to her like this."
"Stay out of our business. Things at home are already stressful enough. I don't have the energy to take care of her. It's my fault; I'm not a good person. Now that the child is gone, I don't want to waste her time. Breaking up is good for her too."

"You must compensate Saffron."
Douglas laughed sarcastically. "So you called me here to ask for money. Are you afraid Aaron won't give you money, so you're coming after me?"

"How much do you want?" Douglas asked deliberately.

"If it were born, sure. But now it's gone. Why should I give you money?"
His attitude was even more despicable than Elara had imagined, making her face turn pale with anger. "How can you say something like that?"
"I'm just telling the truth. We were in a consensual relationship. No, I was still dating Juniper at the time. It was your daughter, Saffron, who seduced me. Don't forget, that night you got me drunk, said you liked me, and I was confused and had sex with you."

"Douglas! You bastard!" Elara cursed angrily.
"Shameless!" Saffron was so angry that she grabbed a vase and threw it at him.
Douglas dodged. "Damn it, are you trying to kill me? Are you crazy?"
Saffron cried in anger. "Falling in love with a scumbag like you, I must have been blind!"
She regretted it so much that she wanted to die, but not before stabbing this scumbag a few times!
"Come on, love? You just wanted to steal Juniper's man. Saffron, do you really think I'm an idiot? Pretending to be pure in front of me every day, don't you think it's fake? I know your true nature."
"You're a selfish, vicious, and jealous woman pretending to be pure. It disgusts me. I didn't bother to expose you before, but you forced me to say it all."
"Douglas!!"
Douglas said self-righteously, "You seduced me, and you didn't protect the child yourself. It has nothing to do with me. Why should I compensate you? Don't think I'll take responsibility for this!"
