Chapter 107 If I Don’t Like You
Natalie struggled to suppress her excitement. She took a deep breath and forced back the sting in her eyes.
Using tears to show weakness? How pathetic!
She thought, 'I spent three days erasing all the warmth of the past three years and finally understood that I should never have any expectations for someone who doesn't love me. Does it matter if Gabriel did it? What matters is that he's waiting for me to beg for mercy, isn't it? So he can play the benefactor, giving me a morsel to eat when I hit rock bottom and letting me barely survive? How ridiculous!'
Everything became crystal clear once she stopped loving him. All the calculations were based on the premise that "Natalie's value is negligible."
Even if she had people like Victor and Charlie around her, even if she had some unexpected moves and personality traits, even if she held the position of Vice President at Clark Group, enough to draw attention, so what?
In the eyes of the Kensington family, she was still that weak, easily bullied, background-less, penniless, and powerless woman, scheming to marry into a wealthy family.
So, they used their power to corner her, trying to make her life miserable and utterly fail!
Gabriel's heart sank deeply. Every word Natalie said felt like a stab to his heart.
It hurt so much he could barely breathe!
Every scolding Natalie endured was unjust.
He knew it clearly.
These past few days, he had been trying to turn the situation around, but Blair used all his connections and resources to let the issue escalate. A serious accident occurred with the group's partner in Fairland, which he had to handle personally.
At this point, there was no other way but for Natalie to compromise.
If Natalie handed over the item, Blair would calm down and shift his focus, allowing Gabriel to regain media control and clear Natalie's name, minimizing the damage.
"Natalie, we can talk about other things later. Solving the current issue is most important," Gabriel spoke again, seemingly with restraint.
Natalie sneered, "No need to worry. I'm used to being scolded; the future doesn't matter. Gabriel, remember this: the thing I regret most in this life is foolishly liking you. It was just three years. I'll consider it a nightmare! Tell Mr. Kensington for me. I'll find a good home for the treasure he wants."
With that, she decisively hung up the phone, her eyes blurred.
She remembered that right after the divorce, the one thing she wanted to know most was if Gabriel ever had feelings for her, even for a moment.
But she couldn't ask. She couldn't bring herself to. Asking would mean admitting defeat. Because Gabriel had always denied any feelings for her.
She wasn't pathetic enough to stoop that low.
But now, the answer no longer mattered; the question itself was laughable, utterly ridiculous!
Those three years were a nightmare of her own making!
Leo looked at the disconnected phone. Gabriel's face was already very grim, and his expression was tight. Leo gave a wry smile.
Leo said, "That woman doesn't know what's good for her. Gabriel, forget about it. Once the topic is down, it'll be fine."
He had never seen a woman dare to scold Gabriel so fiercely, and Gabriel didn't even talk back.
Natalie really had some guts!
He added, "By the way, I got an invitation to Clark Group's anniversary celebration. I heard they invited major media from home and abroad to host a grand banquet. Maybe they're planning to use this opportunity to explain Natalie's situation, so don't worry for now."
Gabriel's expression was indifferent, his face icy, his voice cold. "I'm not worried. If she doesn't appreciate it, so be it."
Gabriel didn't know what Natalie was thinking. The situation was clearly dire, yet she refused to take the easy way out. He thought, 'Does she really believe Clark Group would take her in? Does she think Victor would actually marry her?' In this situation, anyone who get involved with her would be in big trouble. What a stupid woman!'
