Chapter 273 Hanging by a Thread
A burst of gunfire jolted the natives, who jumped up, clutching their wooden sticks in alarm.
Natalie and Felix exchanged a look. Felix's face turned unusually serious, and he put a finger to his lips, signaling for silence.
Right after, they heard a rush of footsteps and the sound of branches snapping as the natives ran, shouting in a language they couldn't understand.
It sounded like a stern warning.
The pirates' angry curses mixed with their gunfire, cranking up the tension.
The pirates, armed with guns, weren't scared of the natives.
But they were outnumbered, and their limited ammo wasn't much of an advantage.
They were even more pissed that they had followed their "prey" here, only to find a bunch of natives.
They felt duped.
"Are there really natives here? Damn it, wasting bullets on them!"
"That explorer should be nearby. Could he be a big catch?"
"We'll know once we catch him. If he's not, we'll kill him."
There were only three pirates, and their conversation sent chills down their spines.
Natalie's heart was pounding so hard it felt like it would jump out of her chest!
The three men started firing wildly. It was unclear if anyone was hit, but some natives, startled, began to scatter and flee.
The natives' makeshift weapons were no match for the pirates' guns.
The pirates tore through the camp, kicking over tents and firewood, shoving the frail natives aside.
The natives' cries and screams mixed with the pirates' wild laughter, creating a chaotic symphony.
The noise got closer, almost right behind the tree where they were hiding.
Natalie held her breath, her body stiff, not daring to make a sound.
It felt like eyes were watching them from above, the sensation of impending doom creeping over them.
What should they do?
At the critical moment, a native let out a loud shout, and they began to fight back against the pirates.
In the next second, a pirate cursed and dodged the natives' ambush.
This gave Natalie and Felix a moment to breathe.
"Don't kill them. A large group of natives is coming. We'll provoke them. Let's retreat first!" one of the pirates shouted.
The situation quickly flipped. The natives' unity was beyond imagination. Those who had scattered now picked up weapons, ready to fight, fiercely swinging their branches.
The pirates, unwilling but left with no choice, had to leave. If they ran out of bullets and got captured, it would be the end!
They fled quickly, injuring a few natives in the process, while the remaining natives chased after them in a frenzy.
Natalie and Felix exchanged a glance, their faces pale, but they managed a relieved smile.
Felix stayed alert, carefully scanning for any remaining natives.
"Let's take a different route and avoid running into the natives."
Natalie trusted his expertise and immediately nodded in agreement.
Just as they were about to leave, they suddenly heard a roaring sound from the sky.
It sounded like helicopters, more than one.
Starshadow suddenly emerged from Natalie's pocket.
"Someone has cracked my location code and started using satellites to track my position. Mom, it could be Violet or Kyle."
