Chapter 239 Kidnapping or Robbery
Ulysses stood there, looking all cold and silent, not bothering to step in.
He couldn't care less about Oliver's family drama.
Messing up Natalie's birthday party? That was just crossing the line.
So, whatever payback Natalie had in store, they totally had it coming!
Clara and Mary, feeling all guilty, knew sticking around would just make things worse.
They left, tails between their legs.
Oliver wasn't in the mood to hang out either. He said a few words to Ulysses and took off.
This little hiccup didn't really cause much of a fuss.
Everyone quickly moved on, those who wanted to dance kept dancing, and those who wanted to chat kept chatting.
Who'd dare to gossip and laugh behind their backs?
Natalie took a sip of her red wine, her lips matching the vibrant color, making her look even more stunning and distant.
She glanced over and saw Ulysses's cold, annoyed face.
She walked over, shaking his arm, and sweetly coaxed him with a smile, "Don't be mad, Dad. We didn't lose anything. Why get worked up over people like that? It's not worth it!"
The way Natalie switched up her expression left everyone feeling a mix of helplessness and amusement.
Now she looked like a little girl, as if the cold, stern look earlier was just to scare people.
Who could stay mad at such a lovely girl?
"Oliver's getting more and more clueless, bringing Clara to an event like this."
Ulysses's good mood was shot, and it showed on his face.
Natalie blinked and clung to his arm like a koala. "Uncle Oliver's been clueless for years; a day or two won't change that. Dad, your health is important; don't get angry."
"Alright, I won't be angry."
Swayed by her, Ulysses gradually calmed down.
Soon, he was back to chatting and laughing with the guests who came to toast.
By the end, Natalie was feeling a bit tired.
She told Ulysses and headed out.
Having had a bit of wine, she wanted to walk along the road and get some fresh air.
Too much had happened tonight, piling up in her chest, making her feel heavy and annoyed.
Gabriel's kiss and Charlie's bouquet of roses both left her feeling unsettled.
The lights stretched her shadow long.
The night was deep, and the cool breeze brushed her face, gently stirring her long hair.
She walked in high heels, her steps a bit heavy. With few people on the road, her figure looked particularly lonely.
The streetlights along the roadside lit up, like a river of stars laid on the ground, shining brilliantly.
Not long after walking out of this road, the path ahead became dark.
The streetlight was broken.
Natalie stood there, feeling the chill in the darkness.
She didn't move.
She thought she heard faint sounds coming from a dark side path nearby.
It sounded like tense, rapid breathing.
After a moment's hesitation, two burly guys slowly walked out from that dark path.
"Miss, someone wants to see you. Come with us."
Natalie's face stiffened, and her breath caught slightly.
'Am I in trouble now? Should've let the driver and bodyguard follow me,' she thought.
But she didn't panic. She stayed calm and composed.
She slowly raised her eyes to look at the two burly men, her gaze cold and sharp.
"Is this a kidnapping or a robbery?"
She didn't take these two guys seriously.
But she needed to know if she was just unlucky or if there was something more to it.
The two men were obviously stunned.
A rich young lady staying calm in such a situation? That was a first!
The intimidating words they had prepared didn't come out.
"Someone over there just wants to talk to you."
One of them pointed to the dark path.
A scarlet light flickered there; someone was smoking.
Sure enough, someone was waiting for her there.
The atmosphere instantly became tense, and the impending danger was palpable. Natalie could sense that this person was not simple!
Running away now wasn't impossible.
But if she left, she'd be leaving this danger in the unknown, and trouble could come at any time in the future.
She might as well solve the problem once and for all today.
She also wanted to see who dared to be so bold.
Thinking this, she walked over in her high heels, unhurriedly.
Natalie stopped not far from the glowing cigarette.
The two burly men stood behind her, blocking any escape.
In the dark night, the person stood in the shadow behind the wall, just a vague outline visible, not even the facial features could be made out.
In this situation, Natalie was at a great disadvantage.
But she easily smelled the perfume on the person in front of her, and the lady's cigarette she once liked.
At the birthday party earlier, only one woman used this perfume, domineering and cold, with a steady aura.
It seemed to fit that person's style.
The person opposite didn't speak, and neither did Natalie.
She could feel the person's gaze fixed on her.
The atmosphere remained eerily quiet.
Natalie was getting impatient, seeing that the person still had no intention of speaking.
Was this a test of her patience?
Half a cigarette was almost burned out, and the ash fell to the ground, scattered by the wind.
Natalie spoke indifferently, "Ms. Garcia, why invite me over if you're not gonna talk?"
The person opposite was Lillian.
