Chapter 287 That Wasn't Me

Natalie lowered her eyelids, gently stroking Starshadow in her arms, clearly not in the mood to talk.

But Gabriel wasn't about to give up. No way he was giving up that easily.

Sure, Natalie had stabbed him right in the heart, and maybe he deserved it.

He forced a smile, trying to seem warmer despite his pale face.

He looked down and pulled out a photo he'd stared at a million times from his pocket, his fingers gripping it so tight they turned white.

She had saved his life, but she never mentioned it.

Gabriel couldn't wrap his head around it. Could she really forget those feelings?

His voice was rough and magnetic. "Natalie, I still owe you my life. You never told me the person in the photo was you."

If he'd known it was her, he wouldn't have ignored her in this marriage.

At the very least, he wouldn't have let things get this bad.

Natalie glanced at the photo, her face going stiff, stunned.

Her breath caught, and she instinctively looked up, seeing the deep guilt and regret in Gabriel's eyes, suddenly understanding something.

A chill ran through her heart.

So, he felt he owed her?

She pressed her lips together, looked away, and spoke calmly, "That wasn't me."

Even if it was, she wouldn't admit it. The gunfight on Eldoria Street and the run-in with the Black Fist Gang felt like a dream.

She was grateful to have met him, but she also regretted it.

Gabriel's face froze, full of doubt, not believing a word Natalie said.

"That's impossible; how could that not be you?"

She was clearly lying!

Why?

Because she didn't want to admit she had known him all along?

It felt like a piece of his heart was being ripped out, making it hard to breathe.

Natalie smiled faintly, her expression cold and indifferent.

"Mr. Kensington, you've got the wrong person. The one you're looking for isn't me. We hadn't met before we got married."

She didn't want to admit those memories that had long been buried, those cautious and painstakingly guarded moments that belonged only to her.

She didn't want her last bit of dignity to be trampled on.

Since she had decided to let go, she should throw away the past along with it!

Gabriel's eager gaze gradually cooled down. Looking at Natalie's indifferent eyes, his heart felt like it had been doused with a bucket of cold water, slowly chilling to the bone.

She wouldn't admit it, and he couldn't force her to.

It didn't matter if she didn't admit it now; there was always time.

He calmly put the photo away, looking at her with a gentle expression.

"Alright, it doesn't matter if it wasn't you. Natalie, I'm serious about wanting to be with you."

His hands were large and beautiful, like a work of art. When he covered Natalie's hand, she frowned and tried to pull away, but he held on tightly.

Natalie's eyes flickered slightly, and she didn't try to pull away again. Instead, she looked up at him.

Meeting his gaze, Natalie curved her lips slightly, her voice delicate, cold, and emotionless. "Mr. Kensington, sometimes, being one-sided and clingy is just as annoying. Just like when I married you, and you hated me."

Now, their roles were completely reversed.

Hearing her words, Gabriel's body stiffened slightly, the gentle smile freezing on his face, a dull pain in his chest.

He opened his mouth to say something, but Natalie didn't give him the chance.

"Yves, are you there?" she called out.

"Yes!" Yves responded without hesitation, pushing the door open and coming in.

Yves was always guarding Natalie, not giving anyone a chance to hurt her.

Natalie smiled at Gabriel. "Mr. Kensington, I've said everything I needed to say. Now, I want to rest."

Gabriel stood there without moving, his deep gaze fixed on Natalie, her stunning face wearing a cold smile.

It was as sharp as a knife, causing a few strands of pain in his heart.

He clenched his fists tightly at his sides, unable to voice his countless regrets because she simply didn't want to hear them.

Natalie now didn't even hate him; she was just ignoring his emotions.

Yves coughed, looking at him unceremoniously. "Gabriel, didn't you hear Natalie say she's tired? Can you leave?"

He didn't have much goodwill towards Gabriel. Anyone who had hurt Natalie wasn't a good person!

Naturally, there was no need to be polite!

Natalie had already turned her head away, stroking Starshadow, preparing to rest.

Seeing the determination and decisiveness in her eyes, Gabriel finally realized that Natalie truly didn't like him anymore.

Gabriel was silent for a few seconds, his voice still gentle.

But his voice sounded a bit hoarse and low, seemingly desolate.

"Have a good rest."

After saying that, he walked towards the door. Before reaching it, he paused, his voice heavy. "I meant what I said. Maybe you can't accept it now, but Natalie, I really regret it."

With that, he left the room.

Yves frowned in confusion. "What is he talking about?"
