Chapter 205 Is It Compensation?
Gabriel's expression mirrored the seriousness and inscrutability of the ocean. His lips were pressed tightly together as he fixed his gaze on Natalie.
Their eyes locked, creating a moment where time seemed to stand still.
After a pause, Natalie averted her gaze, her eyes dropping to the floor, her expression neutral.
Confused, she spoke up, "This project is a sure thing. There's no risk involved, unlike ApexCorp's AI project. So, why the hesitation?"
Gabriel hesitated briefly before replying, "No specific reason. It's up to you whether you want to proceed or not."
Natalie studied him, trying to figure him out. A mocking smile crept onto her face.
"Is this Mr. Kensington's way of compensating me for the divorce?"
She couldn't think of any other reason.
Half of what she said seemed like a test. If he dared to say yes, she'd probably slap him!
If she wasn't the heiress of Clark Group, just a regular woman, would Gabriel still care so much?
Was he trying to fix things between them? Ease his guilt?
Gabriel was being overly generous. With billions in profits, he was trying to balance the complicated ties between their families.
After a few seconds of silence, Kelly looked between them and grabbed Natalie's wrist.
Clearing her throat, she said, "Mr. Kensington, no need to rush an answer, right? What if it's a trap? How about Natalie goes back and talks it over with the company? You're not in a hurry, are you?"
Natalie glanced at Kelly, who gave her a quick wink.
Gabriel noticed and, surprisingly, nodded in agreement.
Totally unexpected.
As Natalie left, Gabriel didn't stop her.
In the car, Natalie couldn't help but ask, "Why didn't you wait for his direct answer?"
Kelly smiled and snorted, "You really think Gabriel would set a trap for your family?"
Natalie stayed quiet for a moment before finally saying, "Not likely."
Even though their families weren't super close, their business dealings were always on point.
"So, why turn down a sure-win deal?" Kelly asked.
Natalie frowned, clearly uneasy as she thought about Gabriel's offer. If this was his way of compensating her, she didn't want it.
Kelly sighed, her sharp eyes cutting through Natalie's thoughts. "Natalie, do you really care that much about his response? If so, have you really moved on?"
Kelly's words hit Natalie like a cold splash of water, snapping her out of her thoughts. She instantly sobered up.
"Whether it's divorce compensation or not, if a gold mine is placed in front of you, and you're not stealing or robbing, why refuse?" Kelly was really pushing her to take the deal!
No one ever complained about having too much money!
Natalie was momentarily taken aback, her eyes lighting up. "You're so financially savvy!"
Suddenly, Kelly's logic made perfect sense!
What was she struggling with?
Why pass up such a good opportunity?
Kelly raised an eyebrow and said, "Ever since I took over my mom's company, I haven't let a single opportunity slip by!"
Natalie smiled, almost wanting to applaud her. "You're absolutely right. Whether he's compensating me or not, I have no reason to refuse!"
After all, she wasn't taking it for free.
Clark Group's share would be accounted for down to the last penny.
Even though she had made up her mind, Natalie didn't immediately reply to Gabriel.
It wasn't the right time.
Back home, Natalie took a quick shower and then got a call from Charlie.
"Natalie, you're so heartless. How could you give that piece of land to that bastard Gabriel?"
