Chapter 70 Hello, Fair Lady
Nathan quirked an eyebrow, his tone holding a note of apology. "I fear I may have been somewhat abrupt this evening, Ms. Clark. Would you do me the honor of accompanying me to the core technology research team? Not many are granted such an opportunity."
Natalie accepted his offer without a moment's hesitation. After all, gaining firsthand knowledge of Zorblax Group's latest research technology would allow her to stay ahead of the market trends. This would, in turn, provide her with a greater certainty about the future development of the artificial intelligence industry.
As they prepared to depart, Nathan turned to address Aaron, who had been standing quietly behind him. "Mr. Cooper, I'm afraid you cannot accompany us. This area is highly confidential to our group. Rest assured, I will ensure Ms. Clark's safe return."
Aaron hesitated, his gaze flickering to Natalie. Sensing his concern, Natalie offered him a reassuring nod. "You can go back first, Aaron. I'll be fine."
"All right, Ms. Clark," he replied, his voice steady.
Natalie and Nathan then slid into the backseat of Nathan's car, the curtains drawn to obscure their view of the outside world. Natalie found Nathan's caution intriguing, and it only served to heighten her anticipation for the visit.
As Nathan adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, he flashed her a knowing smile. "Mr. Cooper was once Mr. Clark's capable assistant, but Mr. Clark directly appointed him as your secretary. It seems Mr. Clark holds you in high regard. No wonder you promptly refused the idea of remarrying when I mentioned it earlier. With such a steadfast supporter, you certainly won't repeat past mistakes."
Natalie fell silent for a moment before responding in a cool tone, "Mr. Clark values me because he has good judgment." Nathan's eyebrow arched, a silent acknowledgment that no matter what Gabriel did, Natalie would remain unforgiving.
After a journey of less than twenty minutes, the car pulled into an underground garage. Stepping out, they were greeted by bright lights illuminating the uniformly gray architecture. The design was unremarkable, likely to avoid drawing attention.
Nathan guided Natalie to an elevator, where he pressed a button and a crystal screen began to recognize his fingerprint. After three scans, the elevator doors slid open. Nathan gestured towards the open space. "After you, Ms. Clark."
Natalie felt a surge of surprise and curiosity. She followed Nathan into the elevator, noting that there was only a button for the 17th floor. "Do I need to be blindfolded?" she asked.
Nathan chuckled. "No, you can't take away any core secrets, so it's okay if you see."
Natalie breathed a sigh of relief, her eyes gleaming with anticipation.
As they exited the elevator, she was greeted by a silver-gray glass corridor. The walls were made of semi-transparent material, but upon closer inspection, she realized she couldn't see through any of them.
Nathan led her into a sealed room with nothing inside. He walked to the opposite side of the room, placed his hand on the gray glass wall, and a curved thin line for scanning data appeared. He stood in place, his pupils aligning with a light spot on the glass, and the wall in front of him opened. Natalie followed him through another gray corridor. If she weren't being led, she felt like she was walking through a maze.
Soon, they arrived at a door, which Nathan pushed open, saying, "Here we are."
As Natalie stepped inside, she saw several people in white coats, some working with gyro-like tools, others conversing with a computer. "Everyone else has left. The ones remaining are all unmarried," Nathan chuckled, looking relaxed.
One of the scientists, a curly-haired man, looked up at Nathan's comment and laughed. "Please consider the feelings of us single men, okay? Oh, we have a visitor!"
Natalie was about to greet him when she felt something nudge her shoe.
Looking down, she saw the little Starshadow again! The Starshadow looked up at her, its fur shaking as it grinned, "My fair lady, we meet again, I really like you..."
