Chapter 390 He's Done For
Natalie didn't respond to any messages. She freshened up, put on a face mask, and her complexion looked better.
Ulysses was waiting for her downstairs to eat. He watched her nonchalantly finish her meal and drink a bowl of soup before he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He hesitated, "Natalie, don't let this stress you out."
Natalie smiled, looking relaxed.
"I know, I'll be fine. Gabriel is out of danger now. I can repay what I owe him slowly. As for the rest, I don't want to talk about it right now."
But in the end, she couldn't hate him as much as she did before.
However, the thought of being together flashed through her mind and was quickly dismissed.
She just hoped Gabriel would be okay.
The entanglement between them was too deep. In the end, it was unclear who owed whom.
Ulysses nodded in relief, knowing that Natalie had come to terms with it.
He waved his hand, and a tall, muscular man in a black suit and sunglasses, with a fierce look on his face, walked in.
"Bodyguard?" Natalie recognized the attire immediately.
Ulysses nodded, "His name is Elijah Carter. He used to work for me. After I retired, I didn't need him for fishing, so he took a long vacation. From now on, he'll be with you."
Natalie pressed her lips together and nodded, not refusing Ulysses's kindness.
"Ms. Clark, hello."
Natalie smiled, "Thank you, Elijah."
Elijah's fierce expression didn't change. He nodded slightly, which was his way of greeting.
Suddenly, Natalie's phone rang. It was Brad.
She answered.
"Ms. Clark, something's wrong. Mr. Kensington, he..." Brad hesitated.
Natalie's expression instantly turned grim. She hung up the phone and ran out like the wind.
She was in a panic.
Elijah had already started the car quickly, his voice rough, "Ms. Clark, get in!"
Natalie didn't think twice and jumped in immediately.
Elijah floored the gas pedal, covering a twenty-minute drive in ten minutes.
She reached Gabriel's ward and anxiously pushed the door open.
Wendy wasn't there, and neither was Blair.
Brad was sitting in the living room, looking sad and sorrowful, "Ms. Clark..."
Natalie's heart sank slightly, and she quickly ran inside.
Gabriel was lying there quietly, just like the day before, lifeless, his face ashen.
The tubes from the monitoring equipment that were attached to him had been removed.
Even the rise and fall of his chest from breathing were gone.
Natalie was stunned for a moment, suddenly feeling an overwhelming darkness engulfing her.
Her heart felt like it was being squeezed tightly, so painful that she didn't dare to breathe deeply.
It turned out that heartache felt like being torn apart, with every cell filled with despairing pain.
Natalie stood there, her consciousness gradually swallowed by darkness, her legs giving way as she was about to collapse.
Brad couldn't help but call out from behind, "Ms. Clark, be careful."
He quickly supported her from behind, and Natalie steadied herself.
At the same time, she noticed a slight curl of Gabriel's right foot under the white blanket.
It was just a slight movement, but Natalie noticed it keenly.
She froze, stunned for several seconds, before gradually realizing what was happening.
After a pause, her consciousness slowly cleared.
Brad looked at her in astonishment, seeing her go from utter despair to calm and collected in an instant.
He hesitated and let go of her hand, remembering Gabriel's instructions, and closed his mouth.
Natalie calmly stepped forward, touched Gabriel's face, her fingertips cool, lingering on his face.
She coldly opened her lips, "Has the funeral home been arranged?"
