Chapter 434 The Child Born by Oneself
The air suddenly became thick and still, an eerie silence settling over the room.
Ulysses froze mid-motion, his hand clutching a gift.
Robert's expression darkened, his eyes cold and brooding, struggling to suppress the icy rage within.
His eyelid twitched, and the usually composed expression on his face began to crack.
"Dad, I want to inherit your estate right now."
Mike twisted his little body, whining in a way that was almost too cute to punish.
Robert had repeated to himself countless times that this was his child, and he had to endure it.
Robert's gaze fixed on Mike, taking a deep breath, his tone as gentle as he could manage.
"Right now?" he repeated, his voice low and ominous.
Mike nodded earnestly, "Only by inheriting your estate can I be with Natalie forever!"
So, the sooner the better.
For Natalie, he was willing to give up even Robert.
Robert looked at his adorable little face, trying hard to maintain his composure and dignity.
"I'll try to fulfill your wish as soon as possible." He spoke through gritted teeth.
Mike beamed with joy, "When?"
He couldn't hold back any longer!
Robert's eyes narrowed sharply.
He grabbed Mike by the back of his shirt and lifted him effortlessly, as if he could toss him like a ball.
Ulysses quickly interjected, "Kids say the darndest things."
Robert managed a faint smile, controlling his expression.
He nodded apologetically, "Mr. Clark, my apologies. I just remembered there's an urgent matter at the office that needs my immediate attention. I'll come by tomorrow to make amends."
With that, he briskly walked off with Mike in tow, head held high, not breaking a sweat.
"I want to kiss Natalie before we leave."
On the deck, Natalie watched Robert leave with Mike, puzzled and wanting to ask what was going on.
She had barely taken a few steps when Gabriel grabbed her wrist.
"Don't go. Please consider what I said, okay?"
His voice was deep, with a hint of caution.
There was a sense of humility in his tone.
He had mentioned earlier that Ulysses wouldn't leave Natalie to fend for herself, and if there was to be a marriage alliance, he should be considered first.
After all, he had the advantages and qualities that made him a suitable match.
Who else could compare?
But seeing Natalie and Robert chatting happily, even though he knew Robert didn't have a chance, he couldn't help but feel uneasy.
So, he had cautiously tested the waters.
Natalie looked at him, her eyes meeting his.
She suddenly smiled.
"Mr. Kensington, when it comes to marriage alliances, it's about suitability, not other factors. But you, you're out of the question. I won't fail with the same person twice; it's embarrassing."
She spoke slowly, her lips curling into a smile.
"Besides, I've seen the world now, and my standards have risen. I no longer fancy the people I used to like."
She emphasized her words, "Natalie!"
Gabriel's heart felt like it was being stabbed.
Natalie smiled slightly, pushing his wheelchair, "Don't worry, I'll take care of you until you recover. I won't forget the gratitude for saving my life. But feelings, they can't be forced, right?"
The once cold and noble Gabriel now felt his heart being torn apart.
No matter how hard he tried, he was the only one standing still.
The bitterness and heartache, coupled with his frustration, left him helpless.
What could he do?
Throw a tantrum?
He had no right.
A few seconds later, his hand gripped the wheelchair tightly, veins bulging on his forehead, the corners of his eyes reddening.
