Chapter 281 She Was Awake
Natalie's room was spotless, cozy, and downright luxurious. As soon as she opened her eyes, she heard Yves shouting like a madman, all excited.
Her eardrums were about to burst, but somehow, it was kind of sweet.
Sunlight lazily streamed through the window, spreading across the floor. The sea breeze, carrying the sound of waves, gently tapped on the window glass. In the distance, the sky was a deep blue, and soft clouds hung in the air.
It was unbelievably beautiful.
She moved her hand slightly; both hands were wrapped in bandages, clumsy and heavy.
Yves was leaning over her, his eyes red and swollen.
"Natalie, ever since your accident, I've been out at sea for so long. Finally, you are back. Whatever you want, I'll buy it for you."
Natalie curled her lips. The dream seemed somewhat unrealistic, but the strong smell of disinfectant stung her nostrils.
Indeed, she had survived!
Looking at Yves's messy hair and that once stunning face now looking haggard and disheveled, Natalie smiled. "Let me think about it."
Yves nodded vigorously.
Suddenly, someone pushed the door open with a bang.
"Natalie." Gabriel's voice was cautious.
Hearing the familiar voice, Natalie was slightly stunned. She turned her head and saw that it was indeed Gabriel.
She remembered the last time she saw him on the island; he was walking towards her from a helicopter.
She thought it was a dream.
It turned out to be real!
To be able to take her away from a hail of bullets was truly surprising.
Natalie looked at him, her eyes filled with overwhelming emotions. She lowered her gaze slightly, revealing a polite and distant smile.
"Mr. Kensington, I really must thank you this time."
Gabriel's body stiffened as if her words had struck the softest part of his heart. His lips quickly lost their color.
In her eyes, he was already an outsider, wasn't he?
"It's nothing as long as you're okay."
A hint of gloom flashed in his eyes, but he still stepped forward and pulled up her blanket, his movements practiced.
"Is there any discomfort? Are you hungry?"
Natalie's smile froze, and she was stunned.
"I'm fine, thank you for your concern."
She looked at Yves. "Yves, could you get me a glass of water?"
Yves responded immediately and turned to get the water.
As he handed it to Natalie, he shot a triumphant glance at Gabriel.
Just as Natalie was about to take it, Gabriel immediately grabbed her wrist.
"Wait a minute."
He turned to the side, took a straw he had prepared from the table, and placed it in the water.
"This way, it won't tear your wounds."
He smiled gently and handed the water to Natalie. "Go ahead."
Yves rolled his eyes in anger.
Was having a straw such a big deal?
Natalie felt a bit awkward but didn't want to cause more trouble. She drank a glass of water and finally felt alive again.
Although there had been fresh water before, it was filtered from seawater and not pure enough, always having a salty taste.
She took a deep breath and hadn't even handed the empty cup to anyone before Gabriel had already taken it from her hand.
"The doctor is here."
There were chaotic footsteps outside, more than one person.
"Natalie, we heard you woke up, so we came to see you."
"Natalie, are you feeling better?"
"Natalie, you are so brave. No one would believe it if we told them you survived those pirates and even dared to fight back with a gun. You're the first!"
"Don't disturb her rest. Let's just take a look and leave."
A crowd quickly gathered at the door. They were all tall, and although they were chatting and laughing, their demeanor was tough, clearly well-trained soldiers.
If Natalie remembered correctly, they were the soldiers from the helicopters.
