Chapter 466 We Are Not Close

Briar was drenched, shivering like a leaf. She looked so pitiful that it was hard not to feel for her.

For a moment, everything was still.

Leo let out a long sigh of relief. But Gabriel's gaze was cold and distant, not even glancing her way.

His lips were a tight line, his face dark and icy, with a hint of hidden sorrow. It was like his soul had checked out.

The banquet hall was buzzing with laughter and chatter.

Who would have guessed what was going on here?

Leo instinctively nudged Gabriel from behind, wondering what they should do.

Gabriel frowned slightly, and Leo cleared his throat.

Briar's sobs were constant, her eyes filled with sorrow as she looked at him.

Gabriel's voice was icy.

"This is your event, don't ask me."

Leo was taken aback. "Wait, wasn't she just with you?"

Gabriel shot him a warning glance.

"We're not close."

With that, he turned his wheelchair around, expressionless, and left.

Leo stood frozen, unsure of what to do.

Briar's crying grew louder, seemingly more heartbroken.

"Can I get a jacket? I need to dry my clothes."

"Sure, there's an empty room upstairs. You can go up and sort yourself out."

Leo couldn't see any servants around, so he took off his suit jacket. Standing at the end of the hallway, he tossed it over to her.

He couldn't get too close; getting involved would be too complicated. Briar was not a simple person.

He didn't want any trouble.

Natalie was talking to Robert, discussing the next steps of their project.

Robert nudged her glass, lowering his voice.

"Mr. Kensington is heading this way."

Natalie looked up and saw Gabriel in his wheelchair.

Briar wasn't with him.

Looks like he left her with Leo.

Briar missed her chance!

But Gabriel's eyes held a coldness, as if he were angry.

Leo quickly caught up, pushing Gabriel to Natalie's side. He glanced at Robert and smiled.

"Perfect timing, Mr. Williams. I have some questions for you. Shall we talk over there?"

Leo gestured with his hand.

It wouldn't look good to refuse at Leo's event, so Robert hesitated for a few seconds before agreeing.

Natalie sat on the couch, swirling a glass of grape juice, and smiled casually at Gabriel.

"Mr. Kensington, everything okay over there?"

It seemed like concern, but she was just making small talk.

Gabriel's eyes darkened.

His fingers clenched the side of the wheelchair, his breath catching, struggling to suppress the turmoil inside.

"Natalie, are you doing this on purpose?"

Natalie blinked, confused. "Doing what on purpose?"

"With all those people, why did you send me over there?"

Gabriel suddenly became aggressive.

He knew the answer would be sharp, but he wanted to face the pain head-on, one more time.

Natalie lowered her eyes slightly, then smiled softly.

"I thought you were familiar with Mr. Vasquez, so you wouldn't ignore his daughter."

Her eyes sparkled, and she smirked meaningfully. "Besides, I heard her mention you. If it wasn't for you, why would she be like this?"

Though she didn't finish her sentence, Gabriel didn't want to hear more.

"I'm not close with her!"

He emphasized seriously.

He looked at her, his eyes tinged with bitterness, slightly red, and he laughed suddenly.

"Natalie, you know how to torment me."
