Chapter 264 When in Dire Straits

When Natalie finally realized it, she let out a big sigh of relief.

The heavy rain poured down from the night sky, making the dark night feel as cold as an abyss.

The leaves around her were rustling loudly from the rain, mixed with the howling sea and the wind, creating a creepy, despairing symphony.

She was drenched, shivering from the cold that seemed to seep into her bones.

Just as she caught her breath, she suddenly heard countless footsteps behind her, eerily clear in the darkness.

Natalie exchanged a glance with the fake wild man and, without a second thought, lifted her leg and kept running.

The cold rain lashed her face, stinging like tiny knives.

In just a few minutes, she felt like her heart was about to burst out of her chest, her legs refusing to cooperate, the surroundings dim and blurry, and with the rain, she could barely see anything.

The ground was littered with branches and leaves.

The wild men behind her were relentless, even throwing branches at her. Natalie got hit several times on the back but gritted her teeth and kept running.

Her hands were scratched countless times by branches and thorns, already numb with pain.

The fake wild man ahead moved swiftly and agilely, his body flexible and athletic.

Natalie dared not fall behind, running for her life.

The sounds behind her grew closer; getting caught meant death!

Suddenly, a thick tree trunk tripped her, and she fell to the ground, her elbow throbbing with pain, making her cry out.

The fake wild man looked back, and Natalie gritted her teeth and got up.

"I'm fine. Keep running."

But suddenly, as she stepped over the trunk, she missed a step and fell!

She desperately grabbed at anything she could, catching hold of a flexible branch that cut into her hand.

Her entire weight hung on the branch, her hands bleeding from the thorns.

She could feel her body trembling, knowing she was at her limit.

The footsteps of the wild men behind her were like a death knell, cold and terrifying.

Despair had never felt so intense, the chill sweeping through every pore.

But in the next moment, the fake wild man, who should have run far ahead, suddenly appeared.

He reached out, grabbed her arm, and pulled her out of the trap.

It was like a lifeline.

Natalie hadn't even had time to catch her breath when she instinctively looked back at the trap, seeing countless sharp, jagged branches inside.

In an instant, she was horrified.

It was a trap set by the wild men.

If she hadn't grabbed that branch, if she had fallen, everything would have been lost in this cold, rainy night.

The fake wild man pulled her. "Run!"

Natalie wiped her face, not knowing if it was rain or tears.

There was no time to think; she could only run, stiff and numb.

No looking back, no stopping, not even for a second.

After running through the woods, there were more paths ahead. The fake wild man took several turns, throwing off the wild men, whose footsteps gradually faded.

He finally stopped and looked back at her.

In the dim night, amidst the rustling shadows, she was soaked, her face covered in tears.

From silence to sobbing, from sobbing to crying, to wailing, it took her less than thirty seconds.

The tears she had held back for days finally poured out.

Her cries were hysterical but drowned out by the rain, not standing out.

The fake wild man squatted in front of her, his voice a bit helpless.

"Don't cry."

Natalie felt much better after venting, but now was not the time to relax.

The wild men could find their trail at any moment; they couldn't stay here long.

She wiped her face, her voice hoarse and calm.

"Let's go."

The rain washed over the fake wild man's face, revealing his true features. He had deep-set eyes, with a mixed-race look. He was even more handsome than Yves.

This person must be a gift from heaven!

The man looked at how quickly Natalie composed herself, slightly surprised, but still led the way.

"It will be safe soon; don't worry."

Calming down, Natalie had many questions, not knowing where to start.

"How did you get here?"

"Where are your clothes?"

"How long have you been here?"
