Chapter 312 Shameless
The place was dead quiet.
Natalie didn't give a damn if Gabriel's compliment was genuine or not.
Did she really need him to tell her she was beautiful?
But for a split second, Gabriel's words made her heart skip a beat.
She was caught off guard and almost got swept away by it.
Luckily, she snapped out of it just in time. Gabriel could forget about charming her!
A bunch of celebs and big shots who heard Natalie's comeback couldn't help but give her a secret thumbs up.
Her response was spot on.
Then, the music kicked in, and the award ceremony got rolling.
Natalie was already set to present an award to Dominic, so as soon as the Best Newcomer Award nominations were announced, she went backstage to get ready.
The Best Newcomer Award usually had two winners, and one of them was Dominic, who totally deserved it.
But Dominic had no clue about this.
The host was hyping up the nominees on stage, the music was pumping, and cameras were flashing like crazy, trying to catch every little reaction from the stars, cranking up the excitement.
"And the winners of the Best Newcomer Award are—Dominic and Emily Thompson!"
The applause exploded.
Dominic jumped up, thrilled, and as the camera zoomed in, the two seats next to him were empty.
Natalie was adjusting her dress backstage, about to go up and present the award when someone suddenly grabbed her hand and linked arms with her, leading her out.
She turned, her face stiff.
It was Gabriel!
He was like a bad penny that kept turning up!
The other award presenter was supposed to be the TV station director; how did Gabriel manage to switch places last minute?
She glanced back, and the director was standing off to the side, smiling and gesturing for her to go ahead.
Gabriel had clearly decided on a whim to take over. What a nerve!
Natalie wanted to yank her hand away; she didn't want to be this close to him. His sharp cologne was making her feel all kinds of uncomfortable!
But Gabriel lowered his arm, stopping her from pulling away. "Don't make a scene."
His voice was deep and smooth, like he was indulging her tantrum.
What a joke!
Natalie was stunned for a second, gritted her teeth, and it was too late to back out; they were already on stage.
Under the spotlight, all eyes were on them, along with a ton of media and reporters.
Right now, she felt like she was walking on eggshells.
Gabriel and Natalie showing up together was way more newsworthy than the two winners of the Best Newcomer Award. They naturally stole the spotlight, making it seem like they were the stars of the show.
Emily and the female host in their fancy dresses were totally overshadowed.
The host on stage quickly adapted. "We're honored to have Mr. Kensington and Ms. Clark present the Best Newcomer Award together. Do you have any words for the winners?"
Natalie finally got a chance to step forward, putting some space between her and Gabriel.
She flashed a bright smile, dazzling everyone.
She couldn't praise Dominic enough! "Dominic's hard work and talent are clear to everyone. His performance is one of the best among newcomers, and he truly deserves this award."
Then it was Gabriel's turn. His eyes had been on Natalie the whole time, and as he spoke, the crowd went silent.
Emily, standing nearby, was blushing and her heart was racing, her eyes full of hope.
He picked up the mic, like he had forgotten the name of the woman who won, and just smiled faintly.
"What Ms. Clark said is exactly what I wanted to say."
Natalie thought, 'What a shameless guy!'
