Chapter 102 Won't Let Her See Finley
In the afternoon, Hollis and her mother met Catherine at a cafe.
When Catherine arrived, the two were already waiting by the window.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting,” Catherine said as she across them.
“We just got here, too. Please have a seat. I ordered some desserts. I'm unsure if they suit your taste, but give them a try,” Hollis smiled sweetly.
With that, she waved for the waiter to bring the food.
Soon, several exquisite desserts were placed in front of the three.
Catherine looked pleased. “Hollis still cares about me and knows I like sweets. Donovan doesn't have this kind of thoughtfulness.”
The three chatted briefly, and Alice began to bring up the topic of Riley casually.
“By the way, Hollis went to see Mr. Benedict Senior the other day and ran into the woman who divorced Donovan six years ago. Do you know when she returned to the country?”
Upon hearing this, Catherine's smile gradually faded. “Riley? She actually dares to come back? If you hadn't mentioned it today, I wouldn't have known about this!”
Riley left with a divorce agreement years ago without a word, and a year later, Finley was sent back to them due to lack of guardianship.
The thought of these events made Catherine furious. ‘Now, does Riley actually have the nerve to come back?’ she thought.
Alice pretended to be surprised. “Don't you know? When Hollis went that day, Donovan was also there, and it seemed like their relationship was not bad. I thought you were planning to let her go back to take care of Finley!”
Catherine frowned unhappily. “Who gives her the right to take care of Finley? If I had known earlier, I wouldn't even let her see Finley!” Back then, Riley was so determined to leave that she even abandoned her daughter. Catherine won't allow her get close to Finley again!
Catherine's reaction was within the expectations of the two.
Seeing Catherine's angry expression, Hollis soothingly smiled, “Auntie Catherine, don't be angry. Donovan may not necessarily have that intention.”
After Hollis finished speaking, she lowered her eyes in disappointment, with a forced smile visible on her face.
Seeing Hollis like this, Catherine was even more furious. “What's wrong? Did Donovan bully you?”
Hollis hesitated to speak, looking silently at Alice.
Alice defended her daughter promptly. “To be honest with you, Donovan didn't show up the last time we had dinner together. I asked Hollis to call him, but he hinted at wanting to break off the engagement with Hollis. This silly girl didn't dare to tell us. If I hadn't noticed her mood and asked her for several days, I might still be in the dark now!”
After Alice finished speaking, she glared at Hollis reproachfully, then turned to Catherine. “So, I asked you out today to confirm this matter. If you plan to let that woman back into the Wilder family, I'll make this silly girl give up early.”
Hollis kept her eyes down, not saying a word, looking very upset.
Catherine heard about this for the first time, and her face darkened. “Did Donovan really say such things?”
Hollis and her mother remained silent, which was taken as confirmation.
“I see.” Catherine picked up her bag and stood up. “Hollis, rest assured, since our two families have already agreed, the daughter-in-law of the Wilder family will only be you. If it were someone else, I would be the first to disagree! And there's no way Riley will step foot in here again!”
Hollis looked up, full of unease.
Catherine looked at Hollis with her face full of compassion. “Don't worry, I'll handle this when I return.”
