Chapter 379 Such a Big Misunderstanding
As soon as Riley got to the research institute's entrance, she spotted Deacon already counting the herbs. Next to him was a slightly chubby guy in a suit with a smooth face. They seemed to be chatting.
The guy in the suit had this overly friendly look, while Deacon seemed kinda uninterested.
Deacon was usually super nice to everyone, so it was weird for Riley to see him like this. Curious, she walked over quickly.
"Dr. Stone, I swear I didn't mean to. When you called me yesterday, I was stuck in a meeting. I was thinking..."
Before the guy could finish, Deacon looked up and saw Riley coming. He cut him off coldly and said, "This is Dr. Monroe, the head of our research institute. If you have any issues, talk to her."
The guy was stunned for a sec, then quickly turned to Riley with a super respectful attitude, "Dr. Monroe, I'm Barry Myers, the manager for medicinal materials at the Benedict Group. You can just call me Barry."
Riley was a bit surprised. If he was from the Benedict Group, what was all this about?
Barry felt pretty bitter inside. If Mia hadn't said it was Dalton's order, he wouldn't have dared to brush off Deacon. But now, he had to take the blame alone.
Yesterday, Dalton had told him to personally apologize to the research institute. Barry figured a phone call wouldn't cut it, so he showed up in person early this morning.
But even with his sincere apologies, Deacon stayed cold. Barry felt helpless. He couldn't exactly say Mia was the one who told him to do it, right?
Knowing Riley was the head of the institute and the one who cured Daniel, Barry's attitude got even more humble.
Riley exchanged a look with Deacon before nodding coolly at Barry, "Mr. Myers, is there something you need to discuss in person?" So this was the same Barry who had brushed off Deacon on the phone yesterday. No wonder Deacon was giving him the cold shoulder.
Hearing her tone, Barry felt another wave of bitterness. His face was full of apology, "It's like this, Dr. Monroe. When Dr. Stone called me yesterday, I was in an urgent meeting. I planned to call him back after, but then Mr. Benedict called me over, and one thing led to another, causing this big misunderstanding."
Riley coldly curled her lips and shot back, "Mr. Myers, are you saying it's our fault for not being patient enough to wait for your return call?"
Barry instantly broke out in a cold sweat. He thought Riley, being a woman, would be easier to talk to than Deacon. But she twisted his words right away.
The petite Riley in front of him somehow exuded a powerful aura, making Barry unable to find a reason to explain himself. He was sweating profusely but couldn't say a word. "That's not what I meant..."
Riley stared at him indifferently for a few seconds before extending her hand, her aura slightly restrained. She cautioned, "Since the herbs have been delivered as agreed, and you are the manager responsible for medicinal materials at the Benedict Group, our future cooperation is inevitable. Mr. Myers, I hope you take us seriously and ensure that such misunderstandings do not happen again."
