Chapter 418 Matchmaking the Two of Them

Facing her frosty demeanor, Donovan felt a wave of annoyance and snapped, "Landon and Winston are waiting for you at home. Hope you can behave yourself, Ms. Monroe."

Riley, not wanting to drag the conversation any further, just nodded coolly, "Thanks for the heads-up, Mr. Wilder."

They locked eyes for a moment, emotions flickering.

Donovan frowned, looked away, and headed out of the hotel.

He'd come here just for Riley.

But her attitude made him want to bolt.

Watching him leave, Riley felt a twinge of suspicion.

Wasn't Donovan here for work? Why'd he bail so fast?

For a second, she thought he left because of her.

But remembering his earlier words, she didn't want to get her hopes up. She turned away and went back to the banquet.

Ralph and the others were nowhere to be seen.

As soon as Riley walked in, she bumped into Harold.

"Where'd you go? I've been looking for you," Harold said, concerned.

Riley gave a casual smile. "Just needed some air. What's up?"

Harold sighed in relief, "As long as you're okay. You're my guest, and if anything happened to you, I wouldn't know how to explain it to Mr. Benedict and Mr. Powell."

After everything that happened, Riley felt a bit drained. Noticing that Harold didn't have anything urgent to discuss, she said, "I'm just a bit tired. And about the collaboration..."

"We'll sign the papers in my office tomorrow morning," Harold cut in. "If you're tired, you should rest. Your being here tonight means a lot."

Riley smiled gratefully, said her goodbyes, and went upstairs to find Zachary.

Adam was upstairs keeping Zachary company.

When Riley said she was leaving, Zachary gave Adam a meaningful look, "I'm tired too. You don't need to stay with me. It's late, and I don't want Riley going back alone. You should go with her."

Adam smiled and agreed.

Thinking of Donovan's earlier words, Riley felt uneasy and wanted to refuse, but it was too late. Adam was already by her side. "Let's go."

Zachary smiled at them.

After the academic conference, Zachary, knowing they were both single, had been attempting to set them up. Seeing them together now, he thought they were a great match.

Riley missed her chance to refuse, so she just went along with it. She said goodbye to Zachary and followed Adam out of the hotel room.

By the time they left the hotel, it was late.

Riley was only wearing an off-shoulder dress, and the night breeze made her shiver.

The next second, a warm jacket was draped over her shoulders.

Adam's gentle voice came from beside her, "Put this on. My car's parked a bit far. You're wearing so little; don't catch a cold."

Riley hesitated for a moment but then smiled and thanked him, "Thanks."

She'd always had a good relationship with Adam. If she refused his kindness because of Donovan's earlier words, it would seem like there was indeed something between Adam and her.

With that thought, Riley pulled the jacket tighter around her and walked with Adam to his car.
