Chapter 152 The Apology Gift

Riley's uncertainty lingered momentarily before she voiced her concerns, "Are these intended for Finley?"

Donovan, with a hint of ambiguity, confirmed, "These are for Landon and Winston. I misspoke the other day. Despite their youth, I should apologize to them properly. I saw some decorations at your place last time and I surmised they might fancy these."

His gaze softened as he addressed Landon and Winston, extending the boxes their way. "My apologies. I hope you like these."

A glint sparked in the boys' eyes.

With an inherent penchant for robotic marvels and a precocious intelligence that surpassed their peers, Landon and Winston naturally gravitated towards more sophisticated playthings. Their proclivity for cutting-edge gadgetry had blossomed over time.

While they had clandestinely yearned for such treasures, the boys had shrewdly refrained from burdening their mother with the extravagant requests. Donovan's insight into their preferences caught them off guard.

Enthralled, Winston inched closer, his gaze fixated on the packaging. These were the coveted treasures he had longingly eyed online, items he almost purchased using Landon's stock market gains—prompting a reprimand from his astute sibling.

Though Landon shared the excitement, lingering concerns about Donovan's abandonment of their mother tempered his expression. Stoic yet curious, his eyes flicked towards the gifts.

After a lingering gaze, Winston sought his mother's approval, acknowledging her final say in the matter.

Witnessing their yearning expressions softened Riley's resolve. Yet, as she glanced at the lavish offerings Donovan and Paxton presented, reservations surfaced.

Having glimpsed these prized figurines and models during their browsing sessions, she recognized their exclusivity and exorbitant value, far surpassing typical market prices. Just the racing car model in Donovan's hand was worth over $200,000, and with the market hype, the price was likely to go even higher.

Riley wouldn't stop Donovan from apologizing to the kids, and she didn't mind him giving some gifts.

But these gifts were just too expensive.

Winston, attuned to his mother's unspoken misgivings, retreated hesitantly to Landon's side, a subtle pang of disappointment etched on his features.

Moved by her son's crestfallen demeanor, Riley interjected, "Mr. Wilder, your thoughtfulness is truly appreciated. However, as much as my sons adore these offerings, they are too expensive. Tell me how much they cost, and I'll transfer the money to you."

Hearing this, Donovan frowned. "Since these are apology gifts, I won't take your money. Besides, Finley also plays with things in this price range. Let this be a token of my apology. If you persist, it may undermine the sincerity behind it."

Riley mulled over his words, apprehension flickering across her features.

Indeed, this amount of money was nothing to Donovan, but she felt uneasy about it.

Sensing her hesitance, Donovan adopted a more solemn tone, "If you want to be so precise, considering the remarkable care you've provided Finley, the debt I owe would be much higher. I wonder if you would accept that payment?"

Gravely contemplating, Riley relented and nodded towards Landon and Winston. "Since it's a gift, you can accept it."

Hearing this, Landon politely but distantly thanked Donovan. "Thank you, Uncle."
