Chapter 61 The Little Mute Speaks

When Donovan's car finally disappeared from sight, only then did Riley bring the two little ones back into the mansion, squatting in front of them with a serious expression.

The two little ones knew that their mommy had something to tell them and looked at her.

"Landon, Winston, listen carefully. In the future, no matter who you meet, you must never casually mention our family situation, especially the fact that you don't have a daddy!" Riley thought of the situation just now and felt a headache coming on.

If she hadn't interrupted in time, someone as clever as Donavan would definitely have suspected something!

Landon and Winston looked at her, puzzled. "Why? We don't have a daddy, and that's the truth."

Riley was at a loss for words. She couldn't tell Landon and Winston that it was because she was afraid their father would come looking for them, could she?

After a moment of silence, Riley came up with an excuse off the top of her head. "Because bad people like to target kids without daddy the most because they know their mommies might not be able to beat them. What if they take you away?"

After hearing this, the two highly intelligent little ones glanced at each other, knowing that their mommy's reason was not convincing but reluctantly - replied, "Got it, Mommy."

Riley finally breathed a sigh of relief, picked up her bag, and took them to the research institute.

Coming out of Riley's house, Finley, although no longer crying, was clearly still angry, pouting and looking out the window all the way as if Donovan didn't exist.

Donovan always had a hard time dealing with her. He sighed inwardly at the sight and said in a deep voice, "Still angry with me? I'm sorry, I made a mistake. I shouldn't have stopped you from making friends. But no matter what happens in the future, you can't just leave home like that. You need to communicate with me, okay?"

Finley glanced at him and then looked down at her little toes, no longer looking out the window.

A touch of helplessness crossed Donovan's eyes. He reached out and stroked the little girl's head. "In the future, if -you have anything to tell others, you have to learn to -voice it out. You can't always write; sometimes writing can't accurately convey your emotions and can easily lead to misunderstandings."

Finley shook off his hand from her head and hugged her backpack containing the notebook tightly, looking clearly displeased.

Seeing his daughter's expression, Donovan- frowned slightly, but he didn't say anything more.

Over the years, there had been rumors outside that the Wilder family's little princess was mute.

Donovan had never explained to the outside world.

Finley had never been mute; she even started speaking earlier than most children.

It was just that later, she developed autism, and slowly, she no longer wanted to speak. Most of the time, she used pen and paper to convey her thoughts.

Even in front of him, she was unwilling to speak.

Over time, although Donovan was helpless, he could only learn to slowly accept it, but deep down, he still hoped that Finley could live a normal life.

Just now, those two little ones said that Finley didn't have many friends at school, presumably also related to her unwillingness to speak.

The car trip was silent all the way.

When they returned to the mansion, Finley walked ahead with her head down.

Donovan slowed his pace, following behind her as they entered the mansion.

"You guys are finally back!"

As soon as they entered, they heard the voice of Donovan's mother.

Donovan raised his eyebrows in surprise as he looked into the living room.

There they were—his parents and Hollis, all joyfully surrounding Finley.
