Chapter 144 Why Is It You?

Riley looked at the disconnected phone, hesitated for a moment, then put her phone away and continued her research.

It just so happened that she needed some time for her research, so it was perfect that Donovan could make a trip over.

On the kindergarten's small playground, three little kids with backpacks sat in a row on a bench. Landon and Winston were already used to their mommy being busy with work and forgetting about them, so they sat properly and occasionally looked up to chat with Zoey.

Finley was sandwiched between them. Initially, she was a bit anxious, but seeing her older brothers like this, her attention gradually shifted to them. She rested her little face on her hands, listening intently to their conversation, thoroughly enjoying it.

Even when Donovan arrived, no one noticed.

Donovan looked at the three little ones sitting in a row and felt a warmth in his heart, unconsciously quickening his pace.

"Mr. Wilder." Zoey greeted him politely when she saw him.

Only then did the three kids look up. When they saw who it was, a look of disdain simultaneously flashed across their eyes.

Donovan noticed the change in their expressions, raised an eyebrow, but said nothing. He just told Zoey, "Sorry, work was a bit busy. Also, I'll be taking Landon and Winston as well."

Zoey knew that the three kids had been together these past few days, so she didn't ask much and handed them over to him before leaving.

The three little ones, however, remained seated on the bench.

Donovan looked at them with some amusement. "Still want to sit here for a while?"

Winston instinctively shook his head. He didn't want to sit there any longer. It was cold, the bench was hard, he was hungry, and his backpack was heavy.

Landon looked at him seriously and asked, "Where's my mommy? Why are you picking us up?"

Finley also looked expectantly at her daddy, waiting for an answer.

"She's not done yet. She's still at the research institute and will be late. I'll take you to eat first," Donovan explained succinctly. "You must be hungry, right? Come with me."

Hearing this, Landon was still a bit hesitant.

Winston was very hungry and was also eager to spend time with Donovan, so he was tempted.

But since Landon didn't respond for a while, he remained silent, only looking at Landon with hopeful eyes to express his desire.

Finley was used to eating with her daddy. Hearing that her daddy was taking them to eat, she didn't resist but wanted to be with the two older brothers. Seeing them not moving, she also sat quietly.

Landon noticed his brother's expectant gaze, hesitated for a moment, but finally agreed and took the lead in getting off the bench.

Winston and Finley followed him.

Although they didn't speak, Donovan knew that the three kids had agreed to go eat with him, so he turned and led the way.

The four of them got into the car, with Donovan driving and the three little ones sitting properly in the back seat.

"Not sure what you like to eat, so I made the decision to take you to a restaurant that Finley really likes." Donovan decided directly.

Winston immediately responded, "I'm fine with anything!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Landon pulled him, and he sheepishly closed his mouth.

Donovan didn't say anything more and took the three kids directly to the restaurant.

The restaurant was beautifully decorated and looked very upscale. Landon and Winston, having lived abroad, were not used to such decor and curiously looked around after sitting down.

Seeing their curious expressions, Donovan's eyes softened and then he asked, "What do you want to eat?"
