Chapter 293 Don't Waste Time
"No, I want Riley!" Finley pleaded, looking up at Riley, then turned back to her dad with determination.
Donovan saw her resolve and knew she wouldn't come with him today. He turned to Riley.
Riley met his gaze, already knowing what he wanted to ask.
"Finley relies on you. Her autism symptoms have improved with you. She got scared and had a setback. She doesn't want to leave you now. Can you take care of her a bit longer?" Donovan asked sincerely.
Finley's eyes lit up, hoping Riley would agree, but she noticed Riley's expression seemed off.
Her heart sank, but she stubbornly looked at Riley.
Riley sensed her gaze, a hint of apology in her eyes. She patted Finley's head and said, "I've been really busy. My professor's project is delayed because of me. Starting tomorrow, I have to work overtime at the research institute. I might not even have time for Landon and Winston, so..."
So, she wouldn't have time for Finley either.
Though she didn't outright refuse, every word was a rejection.
Finley's eyes dimmed.
Donovan frowned, looking at the little one with difficulty.
"As you said, Finley needs careful care. I can't do it, and I don't want to delay her recovery. So, Mr. Wilder, please find someone else," Riley explained.
This was both an excuse and her true feelings.
She genuinely hoped Finley's autism could be cured soon, which needed a professional psychologist to accomplish, but not her.
Donovan couldn't argue. He pursed his lips and looked down at Finley. "In that case, Finley, say goodbye to Riley."
Finley clung to Riley's clothes, her big eyes looking at Riley in disbelief, tears welling up.
Seeing her so sad, Riley felt a pang in her heart but forced herself to look away.
She was afraid if she looked at her for another second, she wouldn't be able to resist keeping her.
"Riley..." Finley's voice was choked with tears.
Riley's eyes softened, but she still didn't look at her.
Landon and Winston, feeling sorry for Finley, spoke up, "Mommy, since Finley wants to stay, why not..."
Before they could finish, Riley interrupted calmly, "For the next couple of days, Harper will take you to and from kindergarten. You need to listen to Harper."
This confirmed how busy she claimed to be.
Hearing this, the two little ones obediently closed their mouths.
Riley heartlessly let go of Finley's hand and said to Donovan, "It's getting late, Mr. Wilder. You probably need to go to the office, so don't waste time here."
She nodded slightly at Donovan, not daring to look at Finley again, and turned to go upstairs.
