Chapter 364 This Is My Personal Matter
"Is the Benedict Group bailing on us too?" Riley asked, her brow furrowed with worry.
Deacon nodded, looking more upset than she'd ever seen him. Usually, he was the picture of calm and grace, so seeing him like this was a shock.
Riley didn't know exactly what Barry had said, but she figured his bad attitude had really gotten to Deacon.
"Hey, don't sweat it," Riley said with a casual smile, trying to cheer him up. "After all, this is my responsibility. I'll figure something out."
Deacon shook his head, frustration clear in his voice. "The Benedict Group is huge. They should stick to their promises."
Riley was a bit taken aback by how intense he was.
"Remember how so many doctors couldn't help Daniel, and you stepped in and cured him?" Deacon went on, getting angrier. "The Benedict family promised to sell the medication at half price, and now they're backing out! If I'd known they'd be so ungrateful, I wouldn't have recommended you to treat Daniel!"
Riley found his outburst a bit out of character and, despite the situation, kind of amusing.
"I'm going to confront them!" Deacon declared, slapping the table and standing up abruptly. He headed for the door, determination written all over his face.
When the Benedict family had asked him to treat Daniel, Deacon had gotten to know them a bit. No matter what, he felt he had to stand up for Riley.
Riley, stunned by his impulsiveness, quickly got up and blocked his path. "Don't be rash. The real culprit here is the Wilder Group. They're pressuring the Benedicts, so confronting them might not help. Sit down first."
She gently but firmly pulled Deacon back from the door.
Deacon frowned, his face still dark, but he let her guide him back to the chair. "I know this is your private matter," he said, his voice softer but still tense. "But can you tell me what's going on with you and the Wilder Group? Why would such a big company target our small institute?"
Deacon thought he knew Riley pretty well, but now he realized he knew nothing about her personal life. Outside of work, they had no interactions. This realization made him even more frustrated.
Riley hesitated, not wanting to get into her personal stuff. The office fell into an awkward silence.
Deacon's brow furrowed as he slowly calmed down, realizing he'd been too impulsive and had asked an inappropriate question.
"Forget it," he muttered, looking away and rubbing his forehead in frustration. "You don't have to say anything if you don't want to. I was just too angry."
Riley gave him an apologetic smile. "Sorry, this is my private matter, and it's really not convenient to talk about. But don't worry, I'll handle the issue with the institute."
Deacon nodded, though he still looked frustrated.
"The Benedict Group isn't as simple as you think," Riley continued after a moment. "While I was treating Daniel, I got to know Mr. Dalton Benedict a bit, and Daniel's been good to me too. So, leave the Benedict Group to me. I'll go over there personally in a bit."
Riley paused, then added, "You stay at the institute. If any employees ask about the medicinal materials, just reassure them."
Deacon agreed, though he wasn't happy about it.
