Chapter 229 A Perfect Match

Riley took a deep breath, trying to calm her earlier anger. As she looked up, her face became a mask of tranquility. "I don't know how to make it up to you. We saw a nice coffee shop nearby this afternoon. How about I treat you to a cup of coffee, Mr. Wilder?"

Donovan shrugged. "Sure."

He slowly released Riley's wrist, but not before his fingertips brushed against her soft skin, causing his eyes to darken slightly. Despite himself, he unconsciously clenched his fingers after releasing her hand, feeling the ghost of her touch linger.

The coffee shop Riley mentioned was just downstairs from the hotel. They had found it while wandering around earlier.

She didn't really think the place was special; it was just the first place that came to mind.

They walked into the shop side by side, and a waiter quickly approached them. "Do you have a reservation?"

Riley shook her head and glanced around.

It was dinner time, the peak hour for couples on dates, almost full of people right now.

Luckily, despite the coffee shop's large area, there weren't many tables, and they were spaced out enough to avoid feeling cramped.

Just then, a table by the window became available, and Riley headed over.

The waiter followed, his eyes wide with amazement.

This coffee shop was pretty upscale, attracting wealthy patrons and celebrities.

The waiter was used to seeing attractive people, but this pair was something else.

After leading them to the window seat, the waiter cleaned the table and handed them the menu. "We have a new couple's set menu that's quite popular. You might want to try it."

Both of their expressions changed.

Donovan gave Riley a meaningful look.

Riley paused, then smiled at the waiter. "No, thank you. We're not a couple."

She continued looking at the menu, then handed it to Donovan. "Mr. Wilder, pick something to drink. Don't worry about the cost; I can afford it."

Donovan, slightly annoyed by her denial, didn't take the menu. "I'll have the same as her."

The waiter nodded and left, but couldn't help glancing back at them.

Even though the woman had denied it, they really did look like a couple!

When the waiter brought their coffee, he tried to stay professional, but he was excited.

Up close, they looked even more perfect together!

The woman had light makeup, a refined face, and delicate features that made her look like a celebrity. The man had sharp features and a tall, imposing figure, like a CEO. They were just too perfect together!

Riley had no idea what the waiter was thinking.

She always felt the effects of alcohol slowly, and after walking around outside for so long, she was starting to feel a bit uncomfortable.

But since she had invited Donovan out, it wouldn't be right to leave now. It would give Donovan an excuse to cause trouble.

So, Riley suppressed her discomfort, took a sip of coffee, and hoped it would help.
