Chapter 342 She Insisted on Coming Here
Finley clutched her notebook tight, scribbling something down before flashing it at Zoey with a dead-serious look. The note read: [Ms. Scott, I wanna take a leave too.]
Zoey had a hunch about what was up but asked anyway, "You wanna see Landon and Winston?"
Finley nodded like crazy.
Zoey frowned, thinking it over. "I can give you a leave, but you gotta tell your dad and let him take you."
Finley's face fell. She shook her head stubbornly and wrote: [No Daddy!]
Zoey felt a headache coming on. Finley's situation was already a mess. Last time, during the parent-child event, Finley got lost, and it freaked everyone out. Since then, Zoey had been extra careful with her.
Normally, a parent would need to take her. Zoey even had to hand the kid over personally to make sure she was safe. But Finley's beef with her dad made things complicated.
Seeing Zoey not saying anything, Finley's pout deepened, and her eyes started to water. She really wanted to see Landon and Winston, but bringing her dad was a no-go. She knew Riley, Landon, and Winston wouldn't be cool with it.
Just when it looked like Finley might lose it, Zoey blurted out, "I'll take you myself, okay?"
Finley's eyes lit up, and she nodded like mad.
Zoey regretted it instantly. If anything went wrong, she couldn't handle the guilt. But one look at Finley's hopeful face, and she was sold.
So, Zoey found herself driving Finley to Riley's place. Riley had left her address when registering for kindergarten, but it was Zoey's first time going there. She almost took a wrong turn, but Finley guided her. Zoey was amazed at how well Finley knew the way. She must've been to Riley's house a lot to remember the route so well.
When they got to Riley's house, it was almost noon. Zoey held Finley's hand and rang the doorbell.
Riley had been chilling at home with the boys for the past few days. When she heard the doorbell, she opened the door right away.
"Ms. Scott," Riley said, eyes wide as she saw Finley and Zoey at her doorstep.
Zoey gave an apologetic smile. "Ms. Monroe, sorry if we're barging in."
Riley slowly took her eyes off Finley, stepped aside to let them in. As Zoey settled on the sofa, Riley set down a teacup in front of her. "Is there something you need today, Ms. Scott?" she asked.
Moments later, Landon and Winston burst into the room. They greeted Zoey politely before turning their attention to Finley. Finley's face still had traces of tears, but she gave a sweet smile when she saw Landon and Winston.
The boys crowded around her, looking worried. 'Has she been hurt or bullied at school?' they wondered.
Zoey glanced at the boys, then turned to Riley. "You mentioned Winston was sick, and Finley was really worried. So she insisted on coming here. I also wanted to check on him. Is he feeling better?"
Riley looked at Finley with a complicated expression and told Zoey, "He's much better now. I just wanted him to rest at home for a couple more days. He'll be back to kindergarten soon."
