Chapter 357 Stir Up Trouble
Catherine felt a twinge of annoyance when she heard how worried Hollis was about Finley and thought about her own proposal getting shot down by Donovan.
In Catherine's mind, Hollis was way too invested in Finley. If Donovan had just listened to her all these years and let Finley spend more time with Hollis, maybe Finley would lean on Hollis as much as she did on Riley. They wouldn't have to go out of their way to send Finley to Riley.
Hollis gave a regretful smile. She muttered, "Honestly, I'm still jealous of Ms. Monroe. She won Finley's heart so quickly. I wish Finley liked me that much..." As she spoke, she kept an eye on Catherine's reaction.
Catherine frowned a bit. "What are you talking about? You're going to be Finley's mom soon. She'll like you more eventually. Who cares about Riley? I've already warned her that if she keeps hanging around Donovan and Finley, I'll make sure she can't stay in H City!"
Hollis felt a bit smug. She'd been thinking about how to get Catherine to kick Riley out of H City, and it turned out Catherine was already on board! Now, she just needed to nudge Catherine a bit more to make it happen.
Hollis put on a worried look. She said softly, "Mrs. Wilder, will that day really come? Finley likes Ms. Monroe so much. Even if Donovan doesn't plan to marry her, he'll still put Finley's feelings first, just like... he's always rejected me. I feel like he might accept Ms. Monroe because of Finley."
Catherine's face tightened. "I've already told him to stay away from Riley."
Hollis sighed, her lips curling slightly. "Finley's just a kid. She won't get it. No matter what we say, she'll still cry and want Ms. Monroe. I can't stand seeing her upset, so let's just see how things go. If, over time, Donovan decides to marry Ms. Monroe because Finley likes her, I'll be happy for Finley."
"No," Catherine said firmly.
Hollis looked confused, like she didn't get what Catherine was saying.
Catherine's face turned cold. "Since we can't stop Finley from seeing her, let's just make her disappear from H City! If Finley can't find her, she'll forget about her eventually!" Catherine'd already planned this; it was just a matter of time.
Given Riley's current situation, getting her out of H City was easy.
Hollis smirked inside but looked flustered on the outside. She said, "Mrs. Wilder, don't be rash. Ms. Monroe hasn't done anything wrong. Besides, if you suddenly drive her away and Finley can't find her, Finley's condition might get worse."
Catherine frowned and looked at her injured arm. She insisted, "If it weren't for her, your arm wouldn't be hurt again. As for Finley's condition, I plan to let you spend more time with her to build a bond. You can take care of her slowly."
Hollis felt more satisfied but still pretended to stop her, each word sounding like she wanted to prevent it while secretly stirring the pot.
The more Catherine listened, the more she resented Riley. She patted Hollis's hand and comforted her, "Don't worry about these things. Just focus on getting better."
Hollis pretended to be helpless and quieted down, her face full of fake disapproval.
Catherine didn't try to persuade Hollis any further; she just told her to rest and stayed by her side.
