Chapter 394 So Cruel to Finley

Hearing Dalton talk about Finley's condition, Riley felt a pang of heartache but couldn't show it in front of Donovan. She forced herself to appear indifferent, though her emotions were in turmoil.

Dalton suddenly shifted the topic to her. "Dr. Monroe, I remember when you came to treat my grandfather, Finley seemed to really like you," he said, leaning back in his chair. "I wonder if Finley's condition would improve if she spent more time with you."

He added casually, "It's the first time I've seen Finley like someone so much. It really surprised me."

Riley's grip on her utensils tightened. She didn't know how to tell Dalton that Finley was in this condition because of her.

On the side, Donovan watched her with a deep gaze. In the past, whenever he mentioned Finley in front of her, Riley would always compromise. But this time, Riley was clearly determined.

The dining table fell silent. Riley could clearly feel both of their gazes on her, as if they were forcing her to make a statement. She didn't know how this meal had turned into such a situation.

After a moment, Riley forcibly adjusted her emotions, raised her eyes calmly, and said to Dalton, "I'm also very worried about Finley's condition, but I don't think I have that much influence. If it's about companionship, I think Ms. Sutton is more suitable. After all, they are going to be mother and daughter in the future."

Dalton was taken aback. He instinctively wanted to refute. Even if Hollis was going to be Finley's stepmother, Riley was Finley's biological mother!

Moments later, he suddenly remembered that Riley didn't know about the truth.

Thinking of this, Dalton was at a loss for words, not knowing how to respond. He awkwardly glanced at Donovan.

Hearing Riley's response, Donovan's eyes darkened, and he raised his lips somewhat sarcastically. "Ms. Monroe, you're right. Finley has no relation to you. What reason do you have to help take care of her?"

Riley's expression stiffened for a moment, but she didn't refute. Seeing her almost tacit attitude, a thin layer of anger appeared in Donovan's eyes.

Sensing the increasingly tense atmosphere between the two, Dalton felt a pang of guilt, regretting that he had brought up this topic. He had thought that since Riley was Finley's biological mother, she might soften upon hearing about Finley's condition and possibly go see her. But he had forgotten that Riley was unaware of the truth.

Moreover, it was Riley herself who had told Finley about her plans to go abroad. She must have known that Finley's emotional instability was related to her.

Thinking of this, Dalton looked at Riley with a scrutinizing gaze. He hadn't expected her to be so heartless toward Finley. He wondered if Riley would regret what she said today once she found out the truth in the future.

Despite his thoughts, Dalton had to ease the awkward atmosphere he had created. He coughed lightly and said, "I just mentioned it casually. I forgot that Dr. Monroe has to deal with matters at the research institute. She must be too busy."

Riley remained silent, her eyes downcast.

Dalton awkwardly smiled and raised his glass to her. "Dr. Monroe, let's not talk about this anymore. I wish you success in your future collaborations with those pharmaceutical companies! Once they confirm the time, I'll contact you immediately."

Riley forced a slight smile and raised her glass in return. "Thank you, Mr. Benedict, for your help."
