Chapter 117: What's There to Explain

Riley was truly terrified, her body shaking uncontrollably as she burrowed into his arms.

Donovan felt her trembling and his heart softened. He frowned and said, "If you're so scared, why did you come in?"

Her mind was blank as his words reached her ear.

Donovan sighed, resigned. "I'll take you out."

Riley slowly regained her composure. The voice in her ear was very familiar, and the scent surrounding her made her heart sink.

"Donovan? No, how could he be here?" she thought.

She looked up, meeting Donovan's concerned gaze.

Their eyes met, and Riley stiffened again. As she realized what was happening, the terror on her face vanished. She pulled away from Donovan's embrace, her expression now cold and distant.

Donovan sensed her resistance, and the soft emotions in his heart gradually faded, allowing her to retreat from his arms.

"What are you doing here?" Riley asked, her tone wary and distant.

Donovan adjusted his emotions and spoke calmly, "I came to find you."

Upon hearing this, Riley frowned slightly. "I thought I made myself clear enough. If Mr. Wilder went through all this trouble to find me, there must be something you need from me?"

After leaving the kindergarten that morning, she had blocked all contact with Donovan.

Donovan must have spent some time finding her. Riley couldn't think of any other reason besides needing her help.

Hearing this, Donovan's eyes darkened. He had intended to state his purpose directly, but Riley's question felt like a thorn in his heart.

If he straightforwardly asked for her help, Riley would undoubtedly mock him.

After a few seconds of silence, Donovan decided to rephrase. "I just feel that the matter of Landon and Winston being expelled hasn't been explained clearly. I hope you can calm down and listen to my explanation."

Riley had already concluded that this matter couldn't be separated from Donovan's influence. Hearing this, she found it ironic.

"Explain? What's there to explain? Do you think you haven't had enough fun these past few days?" she thought.

Thinking of this, a cold glint flashed in Riley's eyes, and her tone became even more distant. "Mr. Wilder, with your high status and power, you can do whatever you want. There's no need to explain to me after the fact, and I don't want to hear it."

Donovan furrowed his brow. "I have always been honest. I have nothing to hide. But this matter wasn't my doing, and I have no reason to take responsibility for someone else's actions. I admit that when I first found out Landon and Winston were attending school with Finley, I did tell the principal to expel them. But after the incident with Finley that day, considering my daughter's feelings, I wouldn't have pursued it further. Landon and Winston were expelled because Hollis saw them at school when she dropped off Finley in the morning and took it upon herself to request the principal. I only found out about it after you confronted me."

In the end, he said that it was Hollis's idea.

Riley felt even more ironic. "So, what's the difference between you and her? Y  You initiated the request, and Hollis, as your fiancée, made the same request to the principal. Don't you think the principal would take your influence into account? Ultimately, this matter started because of you!" Donovan felt a twinge of annoyance as the woman in front of him repeatedly grouped him with Hollis.

"She is she, and I am me. Why confuse us? I have no motive to target Landon and Winston. I also informed the principal last night. Landon and Winston are free to return to school anytime.”
