Chapter 220 It Was Meant for You

Riley put down the utensils and took the invitation from Adam, smiling. "Thanks, Adam. I'm really looking forward to it!"

Riley looked like a kid who just got candy.

Adam rarely saw Riley this excited and grinned. "No need to thank me. After you performed surgery on my elder, you left in a hurry, and I didn't get a chance to thank you properly. My family has been talking about inviting you to dinner every day. Consider this a token of our gratitude."

Riley, full of anticipation for the academic exchange, smiled casually. "I had to pick up my kid that day. Besides, I was just doing my job."

Riley then asked with concern, "By the way, how's the elder doing now? I didn't get a chance to check on him after the surgery."

Adam replied, "He was moved to a regular ward the day after the surgery. Now he just needs to rest. It's all thanks to you."

Riley, not wanting to take all the credit, smiled and changed the subject. "This academic exchange invited you. Is it really okay for me to tag along?"

Adam, who had made some achievements in the medical field and had a strong family background, was highly regarded by many. Some had even publicly expressed their admiration for him.

As for herself, she was just an unknown figure. Those people probably hadn't even heard of her name.

Riley worried that her presence at the academic exchange would bring it down.

Adam understood her concern and chuckled. "You've been studying under Chandler for years, and you still think you're the nobody you were when you first left the country? They might not know Riley, but they definitely know Janet."

A hint of joy flashed in Riley's eyes.

She smiled and touched her nose.

She had indeed been too modest and almost forgot that Janet had some international reputation.

"In that case, I'll gladly accept." She smiled and put the invitation into her bag.

Adam nodded. "It was meant for you."

"I see the exchange is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. When should we leave?" Riley asked.

Observing her eagerness, Adam's smile broadened. "Let's aim for tomorrow morning. That way, we'll have ample time to arrive, take a brief respite, and ensure we're punctual for the commencement of the exchange. Moreover, we'll have the opportunity to visit a few esteemed professors while we're there."

Hearing that she would have the chance to meet influential figures in the medical field privately, Riley became even more excited and agreed without hesitation. "Great, I'll book the tickets."

Adam, recognizing the futility of pressing his luck over such a minor detail, smiled and concurred.

Seeing that the time was almost up, but the person across from him was still excited, Adam helplessly knocked on the table. "Eat a bit more. I noticed you didn't eat much earlier."

Riley slowly came back to her senses, glanced at the time and casually filled a few more bites before getting up to leave. "I have work in the afternoon, so I'll head back to the research institute. I'll let you know once I book the tickets."

Adam agreed.

Initially, Riley's mood had been a bit off after encountering Donovan in the morning.

But after lunch, the joy of attending the exchange had washed it all away.

The entire afternoon, Riley's smile never left her face while she worked.
