Chapter 411 I have the will but not the means
Riley sighed, feeling a bit lost for words, and just said, "I bumped into him downstairs, that's all."
Adam, though, looked pretty skeptical.
Noticing this, Riley softened her tone and pleaded, "Seriously, it's not what you're thinking. There's nothing going on between us."
She was tired of people getting the wrong idea about her and Donovan.
Seeing her expression, Adam gave a gentle smile and dropped the subject. He just said, "Mr. Powell is upstairs resting, and Mr. Rogers is with him. They're waiting for you. Are you going to see them?"
Riley had been searching for them and felt relieved hearing Adam's words. She nodded, "Can you take me there? I need to talk to Mr. Rogers and apologize to Mr. Powell."
Adam agreed and led her out of the banquet hall and upstairs.
Meanwhile, Donovan watched them leave, his face blank but anger boiling inside.
Did Riley change her attitude towards him just to see Adam?
What were they up to upstairs?
"Mr. Wilder," a partner called out to him cautiously.
Donovan turned around, his face dark.
Feeling a chill from his cold expression, the person still handed over the contract.
Donovan glanced at it and signed. The more he thought about Riley, the angrier he got.
The person wanted to say more but Donovan had turned and stridden out of the banquet hall coldly.
Riley followed Adam into the room.
Inside, Zachary was sitting at the head of the table, with Harold and some important-looking men around him, chatting and smiling.
When they walked in, everyone stopped talking. Harold stood up and introduced, "This is Dr. Monroe, recommended by Mr. Benedict."
Then he turned to Riley, "These are the company heads we're discussing cooperation with."
Riley guessed their identities and greeted them politely, then apologized, "Sorry to keep you all waiting."
Zachary waved it off, "It's fine. You must have been in a rush. I told them not to call you, but they insisted."
Hearing this, everyone else chimed in that they didn't mind.
Harold, who seemed close to Zachary, smiled and said, "I just wanted Dr. Monroe to know you were here, didn't mean to rush her!"
Zachary just smiled.
Riley smiled too and sat down with Adam.
During the meal, Harold brought up their cooperation.
Riley briefly explained the plan she had discussed with Deacon.
Harold agreed right away and waited for the others to share their thoughts.
However, they seemed a bit hesitant.
Just as Riley was getting nervous, Zachary spoke up, "I've heard about your research institute and always wanted to help, but I really don't have the capacity."
Zachary looked at Riley apologetically, "Even though I have some influence, I'm just an academic. I don't have much pull in the business world, so even if I wanted to support you, not many would listen."
As he finished, everyone's expression changed.
