Chapter 289 Daddy Will Take You
Hollis, realizing there was no room for negotiation, paused for a moment before leaving with her head down.
Catherine and Edward stayed with Finley a bit longer, trying to comfort her. But Finley just nodded or shook her head. Catherine even put paper and pen in front of her, but Finley wouldn't write a word.
Catherine's heart broke, knowing Finley was scared from yesterday's events. But feeling sorry wouldn't help; they just needed to spend more time with her.
They stayed until evening. Catherine finally got up and told Donovan, "I think I should take Finley back to care for her. You're busy with work and might not manage."
Donovan calmly refused, "No need."
After yesterday, he only felt at ease with Finley by his side.
Seeing Donovan's insistence, Catherine didn't argue. She expressed her concern for Finley and left with Edward.
As it got late, Donovan changed Finley's bandage and told her to rest. But Finley just stared at her wound, lost in thought.
Donovan frowned. "Does it hurt?"
Finley shook her head slightly.
"Then what's wrong? Tell Daddy," Donovan asked patiently.
Finley pointed to the medicine on the table, then wrote "Riley" on the paper.
Donovan's heart stirred. "Do you want to take the medicine to Riley?"
Finley nodded eagerly. She knew the medicine at home was good and thought it would help Riley too. Plus, she really wanted to see Riley.
Donovan checked the time and patted her head. "It's late. Riley must be resting. We'll go tomorrow, okay?"
Finley hesitated but nodded obediently. She wanted Riley to rest well after yesterday.
Seeing her agree, Donovan sighed in relief and took her upstairs to rest. He couldn't stop worrying about her frightened look from the morning. Exhausted from staying up all night, he fell asleep after coaxing Finley to sleep.
The next morning, Donovan woke up to Finley shaking him. Groggily, he saw she was already dressed and ready to go.
"Got it. Daddy will take you," he said, getting up to wash and take her downstairs.
Finley eagerly ran to the medicine box, took out the medicine she used last night, and kept it by her side while eating, ready to leave.
Donovan felt a wave of emotion. Maybe this was the bond between mother and daughter. Just as Riley worried about Finley yesterday, Finley was equally concerned about her.
Though he was worried about Riley's injury, Finley's urgency made it seem like Riley was severely hurt.
