Chapter 172 Can't Imagine What Will Happen

The traffic started moving again, and Riley took her foot off the brake, focusing back on the road.

Thinking about Donovan's expression earlier, she felt even more ironic. "Isn't Mr. Wilder already engaged to Miss Sutton? Yet now, because of Finley, you're getting close to me. Don't you think that's inappropriate?"

Plus, Finley's biological mother was still a mystery.

With that in mind, Donovan's behavior seemed even more out of line.

She wondered how he dared to criticize her.

Donovan didn't expect her to bring up Finley. His expression turned complicated, and he replied vaguely, "It's different."

After all, Finley was originally Riley's child.

Riley sneered. "What's different? Besides, apart from Finley, I have no other connection to you. We're not even friends. Who I befriend is my business and has nothing to do with you. Don't you think you're overstepping, Mr. Wilder?"

As she finished speaking, the temperature in the car seemed to drop.

Donovan's face turned icy, staring straight ahead, and he didn't speak for the rest of the ride.

Riley's lips were pressed tightly together, her heart in turmoil, but her face remained cold.

The rest of the drive was silent.

Donovan didn't say where he wanted to go, so Riley drove straight to her house.

Before Donovan could speak, Riley opened the car door and got out.

Moments later, Donovan also got out from the passenger seat.

"Finley is now basically stable. It's not a long-term solution for her to stay here. If it's convenient for you, Mr. Wilder, please take her back." Riley had thought about it the whole way. Although she was reluctant to part with Finley, she finally made the decision.
With Finley staying at her place, Donovan would inevitably come over frequently, and she was really tired of it.

From the first meeting, she had made it clear that they were strangers now.

But recently, Donovan had been showing up in front of her from time to time, even making a scene at Daniel's birthday party.

Riley really didn't know what their relationship was now.

Besides, the two kids at home were visibly getting closer to Donovan, especially Winston.

From the beginning, Winston had shown some enthusiasm towards Donovan. The gifts Donovan brought recently were just what the kids wanted, and Riley feared that one day Winston would reveal his true identity. By then, with Donovan's intelligence, he would surely figure out that they were his children.

Riley couldn't imagine what would happen next.

Not hearing Donovan's response for a while, Riley spoke again, "Besides, Mrs. Wilder seems to imply that she doesn't want Finley staying with me either..."

For some reason, she felt Donovan's gaze on her was somewhat strange, and Riley couldn't help but stop talking.

Donovan gave Riley a deep look, then turned and left without a word.

Watching Donovan's departing figure, Riley opened her mouth but didn't say anything more. She just sighed silently and turned to enter the villa.

As soon as she entered, the kids enthusiastically rushed to her like little balls.

Riley habitually squatted down, opened her arms, and was embraced warmly.

Feeling the soft touch in her arms and the milky scent lingering at her nose, Riley's heart instantly softened. She tightened her arms, hugging the little ones close, and all her previous frustration vanished.
