Chapter 169 Long Time No Contact
Seeing these guys with blank faces holding boxes, Riley was totally baffled. "What's this all about?"
Donovan answered, "Legos. I heard the kids wanted to play yesterday, so I had my assistant get these overnight. There are also some tough puzzles in there. They should like them."
Riley was stunned.
Looking again at the stone-faced strongmen in front of her, she thought they looked a bit out of place with the toys they were holding.
"Let them take it inside first," Donovan signaled to the bodyguards to bring the boxes in.
Riley hesitated for a moment but eventually stepped aside, watching as they placed the boxes on the ground one by one.
The kids in the dining room heard the noise outside and curiously ran out.
Landon and Winston stood next to the boxes, their eyes lighting up.
Finley first circled around Donovan before joining his older brothers, staring at the boxes with them.
Winston was super excited, almost begging Riley to open the boxes for them.
Winston never dreamed that the Legos he mentioned to his mom last night would show up this morning.
Plus, there were quite a few limited edition puzzles he really wanted but thought were too expensive to ask his mom for. He didn't expect them to be here too!
Even Landon couldn't hold back, visibly happy.
"Are these all for us?" Winston looked at Donovan at the door with shining eyes.
Donovan nodded.
With his confirmation, Winston cheered in his childish voice and thanked him with a big smile. "Thank you, Uncle!"
Landon was more reserved, but the corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he also thanked Donovan.
Donovan nodded. "As long as you like them."
Seeing the interaction among them, Riley frowned slightly, feeling a bit worried.
Donovan thought Riley didn't like him giving gifts to the kids without permission and casually explained, "Finley likes these things too. You can all play together."
The implication was that these things were mainly for his daughter, and the two boys were just benefiting from it.
Since Donovan put it that way, Riley couldn't say much more and had to tacitly agree to keep the items.
After delivering the gifts, Donovan didn't stay long and hurried to the company.
Riley tidied up briefly with the kids and sent them to school.
After handing the kids over to Zoey, she headed to the research institute. As soon as she entered the office, her phone rang. Seeing the caller ID, Riley's eyes lit up, and she answered with a smile, "Professor."
On the other end, Chandler's voice came through leisurely, "Are you busy?"
Riley shook her head and answered, "No, I just got into the office. What's up? It's been a while since you contacted me."
Since she returned to the country, their contact had been minimal, mostly Riley reporting the institute's progress to him. Chandler, busy with his research, always responded concisely.
This was the first time Chandler had called her.
"I do have something for you," Chandler said straightforwardly, "There's a project that needs your team to follow up on the research. I'll send you the project details later for you to review."
Hearing it was work-related, Riley agreed without hesitation. They discussed a bit more about the project, and Riley expressed concern about her professor's return. "When are you coming back? Let's have a meal together."
Chandler checked his schedule and said, "It might be a while longer. I'll contact you when I return."
Riley agreed.
