Chapter 385 It Turns Out to Be Catherine
After a moment of hesitation, Dalton finally mustered up the courage and asked, "So, what's the deal with you two now? If you're not planning to keep in touch with her, then when she comes to check on my grandpa, I'll just treat her like any other doctor. No need to be overly polite."
Donovan took a deep breath, his eyes narrowing slightly before he responded in a low voice, "Just treat her like before." Riley was about to go abroad, and she wouldn't be checking on Daniel much anyway.
Dalton nodded, feeling somewhat relieved. He could sense that Donovan still had feelings for Riley, even if he wasn't openly admitting it. He decided to steer the conversation toward the challenges Riley had been facing recently.
"By the way," Dalton began, trying to sound casual, "when Dr. Monroe came to check on my grandpa yesterday, she mentioned that their research institute has been facing some challenges lately."
Donovan's brow furrowed, and he turned to Dalton with a concerned expression. "What's going on?"
Dalton explained, "Dr. Monroe initially came to treat my grandpa because all the herbal medicine suppliers in H City refused to cooperate with their research institute. She approached my family with the primary goal of securing the half-price herbal medicine contract that the Benedict Group had publicly offered. After she cured my grandpa, I signed the contract with her as promised. With the Benedict Group leading the way, many herbal medicine suppliers turned back and started cooperating with their research institute. But in the past couple of days..."
Dalton paused, watching Donovan's reaction. Donovan's brows were tightly knit, his face growing colder by the second.
"In the past couple of days," Dalton continued cautiously, "the same thing happened again. All the herbal medicine suppliers in H City received warnings not to cooperate with Dr. Monroe. Now, the only partner she has left is the Benedict Group."
Donovan's face darkened with anger. "Who did this?" he demanded.
Dalton hesitated, then patted Donovan's shoulder with a meaningful look. "That's all I can say. I believe it shouldn't be hard for you to find out the rest. You'll have to investigate it yourself."
Dalton knew this was a delicate family matter and didn't want to overstep. He thought Donovan would wait until tomorrow at work to investigate, or at least wait until they parted ways and he went home to look into it.
But to his surprise, Donovan immediately took out his phone and made a call right there, not caring that Dalton was still sitting beside him.
Meanwhile, Paxton had just finished washing up and was lying in bed when his phone rang with the special ringtone he had set for Donovan. He sat up straight and answered the call seriously, "Mr. Wilder, what can I do for you?"
Donovan's voice was deep and commanding. "Check who from the Wilder Group has recently been in contact with the major herbal medicine suppliers in H City and who has been preventing them from cooperating with the Virus Research Institute."
Paxton quickly agreed, "Understood, Mr. Wilder. I'll get on it right away."
After hanging up, Paxton felt a moment of confusion. The Wilder Group wasn't heavily involved in the pharmaceutical field. Why was Donovan suddenly asking him to investigate this? And why was someone from the Wilder Group interfering with the herbal medicine suppliers?
Paxton, though puzzled, immediately started the investigation. Given his position as Donovan's assistant, it wasn't difficult for him to find out the necessary information. In no time, he had the results and was shocked once again.
The Virus Research Institute—wasn't that Riley's research institute? And the person Donovan had him investigate turned out to be Catherine?
