Chapter 314 A Burst of Joy
Hearing Catherine's words, Hollis was caught off guard for a sec. She glanced at the door and spotted Donovan hanging around. Quickly running through her recent chats, Hollis didn't find any slip-ups and let out a silent sigh of relief. She looked at Catherine and said softly, "Auntie, no need for all this. It's just what I should do. Don't mention it."
Catherine frowned. "Your consideration would only make me feel worse."
Hollis just kept quiet. Catherine then turned to Donovan. "If it weren't for Hollis, you might not see me standing here today. The Wilder family owes her big time. I've been through a lot and can't take care of her, so I'm leaving Hollis in your hands. You better take good care of her for me."
Everyone's eyes in the room turned to Donovan. Donovan furrowed his brow and said in a deep voice, "Got it."
He really didn't want to get tangled up with Hollis again, but she saved his mom, so he couldn't say no.
Seeing Donovan agree, everyone else relaxed a bit. Despite her injury being a bigger pain than she thought, Hollis felt a sense of satisfaction. Her plan was to use this injury to make Catherine feel guilty and get her on her side against Riley. The way things turned out was a nice surprise.
"In that case, Hollis will be in your care for now," Alice said to Donovan with a smile. Donovan nodded, not really committing.
Hollis hesitated, looking awkward as she spoke to Donovan, "Donovan, I know you're still mad about what happened with Finley and don't want to deal with me. Don't worry, I won't bug you unless I really have to."
Catherine shot her a disapproving look. "If you feel uncomfortable, just let Donovan take care of you. If you don't, I'll think you don't accept my gratitude, and I'll feel bad."
Hollis pretended to be troubled. Catherine paused, thinking carefully, then turned to Donovan. "How about this: you come to the hospital after work to look after Hollis. I'll join her when I can, so she won't be alone."
Donovan's eyes darkened a bit. They stared each other down for a few seconds before Donovan finally agreed, "Alright."
Hollis was surprised by Donovan's quick agreement, her face showing it. After a moment, she hid her joy with a bit of guilt and said, "Thanks, Donovan. I'll have to trouble you."
Donovan furrowed his brow and just nodded at her, looking indifferent. Hollis noticed but chose to ignore it, understanding his feelings without letting it get to her. By following Catherine's orders, Donovan was stuck in the ward with Hollis, giving him no chance to see that other woman. The thought made Hollis feel a quiet sense of triumph.
After some discussion, they sorted out the plans for Hollis's recovery. The doctor gave some instructions and asked them to handle the hospitalization paperwork. Before anyone could speak, Donovan quickly volunteered.
"I'll do it," he said, then left the room in a hurry. It was clear he wanted to get away from Hollis as fast as possible.
After sorting out the paperwork, Donovan went to see the hospital director and, following Catherine's wishes, set up the best care for Hollis.
