Chapter 190 Those Were Not Dreams
Riley slept the whole way.
She didn't wake up even when the car stopped at the hospital entrance.
Donovan hesitated for a moment but couldn't bring himself to wake her. He instructed the driver to open the door, took off his coat, carefully draped it over her, and carried her out of the car.
They arrived late, and only the emergency department was still staffed.
Donovan registered her and carried Riley to the department.
It was only after they entered that Riley slowly woke up. It took her a few seconds to realize she was still in Donovan's arms, with the doctor sitting across from them.
Realizing this, Riley's face instantly turned red, though it wasn't very noticeable due to her fever.
"Put me down!" Riley said awkwardly, pushing Donovan.
Donovan was fully focused on listening to the doctor's examination results. Hearing her voice, he realized Riley had woken up and glanced down at her but didn't let go.
Riley didn't want to make a scene in front of the doctors, so she quieted down and burrowed into the coat, trying to hide her face.
Donovan's embrace was so warm that Riley soon felt drowsy again.
She could vaguely hear the doctor's voice, occasionally interspersed with Donovan's questions. Silently, she thought to herself that she already knew all the doctor's instructions and that there was no need to ask so many detailed questions.
When she woke up again, it was Donovan who woke her.
"You need an IV drip. We probably won't be going back tonight."
As he spoke, Donovan leaned down and placed her on the hospital bed.
Riley was still groggy, nodded, and waited for the nurse to finish the IV insertion before falling asleep again.
Donovan sat by the bed, looking at her small face with a slightly serious expression.
After six years, Riley was much thinner than he remembered. This illness made her look even more frail.
Donovan had carried her the whole way without feeling tired at all. On the contrary, it felt as if the person in his arms had no weight, as light as a feather.
He wondered how Riley had been taking care of herself all these years.
Especially with two kids.
Late at night, Riley finally woke up from her sleep, opening her eyes in a daze. Everything that had happened before felt like a dream.
If it wasn't a dream, why would someone who was supposed to marry another woman treat her so well?
As she was still in a daze, she heard a steady breathing sound in the room.
Riley looked over in confusion and saw Donovan leaning against a chair. His tall body almost covered the chair, and he was sleeping soundly in an awkward position.
The IV bottle beside her had also been replaced with a new one.
Seeing this, Riley was stunned for a moment before realizing that everything that had happened wasn't a dream.
It seemed that Donovan had exhausted himself taking care of her.
Riley couldn't quite describe how she felt.
She glanced at the time. It was already midnight.
She hadn't expected to sleep for so long.
She wondered if the kids at home had gone to bed.
She wanted to send a message to Sophie to check, but when she took out her phone, she realized the time was not only late for the kids, but also for the nanny.
After thinking for a moment, Riley put her phone away.
Compared to when she was at home, her head didn't feel as heavy.
Riley touched her forehead and felt that her fever had gone down quite a bit.
