Chapter 306 Took Care of Her All Night
Not long after, Robert came in with the IV supplies. Once Riley got the medication, he told Donovan, "Ms. Monroe's meds will take a while. Someone should stay to help with the IV tonight."
Riley quickly said, "Sophie, can you stay tonight?"
Sophie agreed right away, but before she could say anything, someone else spoke up, "I'll stay."
Everyone looked surprised. Sophie was puzzled. Last time, Riley didn't want Donovan around, and the kids weren't thrilled about his presence either. But since Donovan brought the doctor, she felt stuck. Sophie glanced at Riley, unsure what to do.
Riley frowned and said, "No need, Sophie can help. You're busy with work."
The kids added, "We can help take care of Mommy. Thanks, but no thanks."
They just wanted the doctor to check on their mom, not for their dad to stay.
Finley looked a bit down. If her dad left, she probably couldn't stay either, but she was worried about Riley.
Donovan looked at Finley, then at Riley. He said, "You're really sick, and Finley won't want to leave you. I can't leave her alone, so I'm staying. Sophie, can you help the kids settle down?"
Sophie hesitated, looking between Riley and the kids. Riley exchanged a quick look with the child next to her.
Finley, looking worried, said, "You're not well yet, I'm not leaving," and clung to Riley's arm.
It was the first time Finley acted so clingy. Riley couldn't ask her to leave. Given her illness and Donovan's stubbornness, she knew he wouldn't go easily.
Riley stayed silent, which Donovan took as approval to stay.
Donovan's eyes softened. He asked Robert for some tips, saw him off, and then sat on the sofa in Riley's room.
The kids stayed by the bed, chatting with Riley until she fell asleep.
Donovan asked Sophie to take the kids to rest and stayed up to care for Riley, barely sleeping.
The next morning, Riley woke up groggy. She saw Donovan holding her wrist to keep her from moving. His eyes were red from lack of sleep. Their eyes met, and Riley looked away.
"How are you feeling?" Donovan asked, his voice hoarse.
Riley looked back. "Much better, thank you, Mr. Wilder." She felt stronger than the day before.
Donovan nodded, knowing she didn't want to talk much. He relayed Robert's instructions and then took Finley away.
Finley, seeing Riley was better, obediently followed her dad.
