Chapter 212 Thanks for the Offer
Meanwhile, up in the VIP box, Donovan watched a bunch of pot-bellied middle-aged guys drinking, his face blank.
When picking Finley up in the afternoon, the kid was in a funk. As soon as they got home, Finley threw a tantrum at him.
Donovan could somewhat discern the reason, simply due to Riley's absence or a perceived coolness in Riley's attitude towards Finley.
Ultimately, the issue lay within him.
Because of him, Riley had to keep her distance from Finley.
This whole mess had Donovan in a foul mood all night.
Now, watching these guys yammer on without any solid plan, he felt even more annoyed.
"You guys keep at it. I need some air," Donovan said coldly as he got up.
The men didn't dare say a word, just watched awkwardly as Donovan walked out.
The VIP box overlooked the dance floor, and as Donovan stepped out, his eyes naturally drifted down.
He spotted a familiar figure.
Donovan stopped dead in his tracks.
The dance floor lights flickered unpredictably, and the figure vanished as quickly as it appeared.
After staring for a while and not seeing the figure again, Donovan shook his head, mocking himself.
What kind of spell did Riley have on him? Just a glance, and he was seeing things.
Just as he was about to turn back, a loud cheer erupted from a booth downstairs.
Everyone in the bar, including Donovan, looked over.
Seeing the people in that booth, Donovan's eyes darkened.
He had thought he was imagining things, but there was Riley, just tired from dancing and resting in the booth!
And she was surrounded by a bunch of guys, laughing and clinking glasses with one of them.
The cheer seemed to be because of them.
It made their relationship seem rather ambiguous.
Downstairs, Riley clinked glasses with Aaron and downed her drink in one go.
Another round of cheers erupted around them.
As she set her glass down, Riley felt a strange sensation, like someone was watching her from afar.
She looked in the direction of the gaze but saw only darkness.
For some reason, that reminded her of Donovan.
For a moment, Riley couldn't drink anymore.
"I'm a bit tired. I want to go home," Riley said apologetically to everyone, then walked over to Harper. "It's late. Let's head out."
Harper, who had been drinking all night, was almost drunk. She nodded drowsily. "Okay, you guys have fun, goodbye."
She reached out to Riley.
Riley helped her up, struggling a bit, and said goodbye to everyone.
"I'll take you guys," Aaron stood up. "You look like you could use some help getting her to the car."
Riley hesitated, looked at the unsteady Harper, and reluctantly agreed, "That would be great, thanks."
After hanging out with Aaron tonight, she had a good impression of him. Plus, she had drunk quite a bit herself and was struggling to support Harper.
Seeing her agree, Aaron stepped forward to help, but a low, displeased voice came from behind.
"Thanks for the offer, but I'll take them home. No need to trouble you, Mr. Baker."
