Chapter 302 Finley Alone
"Miss Wilder, did you tell Mr. Wilder?" The driver suddenly remembered halfway through the drive.
The car went silent. The driver got anxious.
'Finley definitely hasn't told Donovan. If he finds out...' The driver hesitated and glanced at Finley in the rearview mirror. "Should I tell Mr. Wilder?"
Finley shook her head. "No."
'No way I'm telling Daddy! Last time, Riley almost kicked me out. Riley doesn't like Daddy, so it's best to leave him out of it. If Daddy comes, Riley might not even open the door,' Finley thought.
Seeing Finley's determined look, the driver decided to stay quiet and planned to tell Donovan after dropping her off.
Soon, they arrived at Riley's house. Finley jumped out and rang the doorbell.
Everyone was upstairs with Riley and didn't hear the bell.
Finley rang for a long time, but no one answered. She got anxious, her eyes turning red, and slowed down her ringing.
Finally, Sophie came downstairs to get something for Riley and heard the doorbell. She opened the door and was surprised to see Finley alone. "Finley, why are you here by yourself?"
Finley, choking back sobs, said, "Riley..."
Seeing Finley's pitiful look, Sophie was stunned. "You came to see Ms. Monroe alone?"
Finley nodded vigorously, craning her neck to look inside for Riley, Landon, or Winston but saw no one.
Sophie hesitated but then let Finley into the living room.
Last time, Riley had kicked Finley and her dad out, and Sophie had seen it. She wasn't sure about Riley's attitude towards Finley now, but she couldn't leave her outside.
Leaving Finley in the living room, Sophie went upstairs to explain the situation to Riley.
"She's alone?" Riley, feverish and a bit delirious, had a flushed face and dry, cracked lips.
Sophie nodded. "I left her downstairs. Should I bring her up, or call Mr. Wilder to take her back?"
Riley, burning with fever, was slow to respond.
Landon and Winston, however, were eager to see Finley. They knew how much Finley missed Riley. Now that she had come alone, they were afraid she might get lost again. They knew Riley rejected Donovan, not Finley.
Seeing their Mommy hadn't spoken, the little ones quickly spoke up for Finley. "Mommy, let Finley come up. She must have heard from the teacher that you were sick and came over by herself."
Riley frowned slightly but eventually nodded. She couldn't bear to leave Finley alone, haunted by the memory of finding her curled up at the bottom of the pit.
With their Mommy's permission, the two little ones went downstairs to bring Finley up.
Finley had been in Riley's bedroom before and had even spent extended periods there. But this time, she felt a bit nervous.
It had been a while since Finley last saw Riley, and Riley was still under the weather.
