Chapter 391 The Atmosphere Was Tense

Since she had said she would treat Dalton to a meal, Riley naturally wasn't just being polite.

That evening, she booked a table at a restaurant and shot Dalton a message to let him know.

Riley: [See you this weekend.]

Dalton agreed and quickly texted Donovan: [Hey Donovan, want to join?]

After all, Riley was treating Dalton to thank him, and Donovan had also helped out. It only made sense for him to come along.

On the other end, Donovan saw Dalton's message and hesitated. He thought, 'If I show up, will Riley freak out?'

As he was mulling it over, another message from Dalton popped up: [Dr. Monroe is thanking me, and even though she doesn't know you helped too, it's only fair you get a meal on her.]

Seeing the message, Donovan's eyes darkened, and he typed back: [Alright, let's go together.]

As soon as Dalton got Donovan's reply, he raised an eyebrow, ready for some weekend drama. Judging by Riley and Donovan's behavior, there was definitely some tension between them. Especially with Catherine in the mix, things must have been pretty strained lately. Dalton wondered what would go down when they all met up.

On Saturday evening, Riley showed up at the restaurant ten minutes early. As soon as she walked into the private room, she saw the two guys already there.

Dalton was leaning over, saying something to Donovan. When they heard the door open, both of them looked up at the same time.

"Dr. Monroe," Dalton greeted with a smile as he stood up.

Riley nodded slightly, but her heart was in turmoil. Donovan's gaze was locked on her, making her want to turn around and bolt. But that would be way too embarrassing.

Riley stood at the door, stuck between moving forward and retreating.

Inside the room, Donovan sat with a poker face, his intense gaze on Riley like a predator eyeing its prey, giving off a dangerous vibe. The atmosphere was thick with tension.

Dalton noticed Donovan's unusual mood and subtly nudged his arm. He then casually smiled and explained to Riley, "I ran into Donovan here finishing up a meeting, and since we all know each other, I invited him to join us. Hope you don't mind, Dr. Monroe?"

Though it seemed like Dalton was asking for Riley's opinion, he didn't really give her a choice. Donovan was already there. If she refused now, it would seem too unfriendly.

Plus, Dalton didn't know about their history. If she showed any resistance toward Donovan, it might seem weird to him.

Riley didn't want anyone prying into her and Donovan's relationship.

The two guys in the room had no clue what she was thinking. They just saw her tense up and go silent. They exchanged glances.

Dalton felt a bit regretful, thinking that bringing Donovan today might have been too sudden and could make things worse.

Donovan's eyes darkened as he stood up and spoke coldly, "Dr. Monroe, since you're here, I won't interrupt your plans."

With that, Donovan was about to leave.

Riley snapped out of it and spoke politely, "Mr. Wilder, you're Mr. Benedict's friend. I have no reason not to welcome a guest. Since you're here, stay and join us for dinner."
