Chapter 360 Why Wait Until Now?

The office was dead quiet, just Riley and Deacon left. Their faces were serious, the weight of the situation hanging heavy.

"This feels just like when the Sutton Group came after us last time," Deacon said, his brow furrowed, matching Riley's worried look.

Riley's mind flashed back to when Hollis had orchestrated attacks right after she returned to the country. All the herbal suppliers in H City, under the Sutton Group's orders, had suddenly refused to work with them for no apparent reason.

Now, it seemed like history was repeating itself. Someone was pulling the strings behind this sudden withdrawal of support from their suppliers—but who? Riley's eyes narrowed as she tried to figure out who it could be.

They had dealt with Hollis's tricks before, so it was unlikely they'd try the same thing again. Deacon didn't say it outright, but he knew this time, the issue was aimed directly at Riley.

Seeing her deep in thought, Deacon tried to reassure her, "Don't stress too much about it right now. Since you're here, you should call those partners yourself to see what's up. If they won't cooperate, we need to find new suppliers fast. The most important thing is to keep our projects moving."

Riley nodded, snapping back into action mode. Deacon handed her the contact list of the institute's partners, and she started making calls.

"Dr. Monroe, I'm really sorry. We've loved working with your institute, but we can't supply the herbs you need right now, so..."

"Dr. Monroe, I apologize. This came up suddenly, and I didn't have time to inform you. Our factory is swamped with a big order from a hospital, so we can't meet your needs in time..."

After calling several partners, each one had some excuse to refuse. The message was clear—they weren't planning to cooperate anymore.

Riley's grip on the phone tightened, frustration boiling over. She went to dial another number, but Deacon gently stopped her. "No need to call anymore," he said.

Riley looked up at him, confused. Deacon sighed. "It's obvious someone is targeting our institute, and their influence is as strong as, if not stronger than, the Sutton Family. Calling more won't change anything."

Reluctantly, Riley saw the truth in his words and put the phone down, her frustration turning into simmering anger.

"Have you pissed anyone off recently?" Deacon asked, concerned.

Riley stiffened slightly. Deacon quickly added, "I'm not blaming you. You were the one who solved the institute's previous issues. I just want to remind you that if someone is going this far, they might come after you or your kids next. Be careful. I can hold things down here for a while."

Deacon gave her a reassuring smile. Riley's eyes softened a bit. "Thank you," she said quietly.

But she really couldn't think of anyone who would target her like this. The only possible person was Catherine. But the last time they met, she had made things very clear, and she hadn't been in contact with Donovan since.

Plus, if Catherine wanted to act, she could have done so right after they parted that day. Why wait until now?
