Chapter 123: Should Have Beaten That Little Brat to Death
Upon hearing Donovan's tone, Hollis felt a tightness in her chest as any glimmer of hope she had vanished.
She should have taken the time to dress nicely to meet Donovan, but as he only gave her half an hour, Hollis had to hastily grab her bag and rush out the door.
Hollis's home was a considerable distance from the restaurant, requiring the driver to speed all the way to arrive on time.
When Hollis entered, Donovan was already seated at a window table, waiting for her.
Upon hearing the noise at the entrance, the man glanced up, his expression colder than the night air.
"Donovan, what's the matter?" Hollis nervously clutched her bag as she carefully took a seat across from him.
Donovan fixed his dark gaze on her for a few moments, the atmosphere heavy with tension.
Hollis anxiously clenched her fingers, forcing a smile to keep her composure.
"Did you take Finley yesterday morning?" Donovan finally asked coldly.
Hollis quickly nodded. "Auntie asked me to help, so I went."
Upon hearing this, Donovan let out a cold snort. "Did my mom also instruct you to seek out the principal and have those two children expelled under the Wilder Corporation's name?" Hollis was taken aback by how quickly he had discovered the truth.
Her face paled as she hastily fabricated an excuse. "I happened to witness those two children bullying Finley while dropping her off at school, so I acted impulsively and reported it to the principal.”
After speaking, Hollis anxiously glanced at Donovan across the table and reiterated, "Donovan, I can't bear to see anyone mistreat Finley. You can understand that, can't you?" Donovan raised an eyebrow. "I understand, but I also want to know where exactly these two kids mistreated Finley?”
"At the kindergarten entrance." Hollis's voice trembled slightly.
After she finished speaking, Donovan's expression turned even colder. "Fine, I'll have someone review the surveillance footage. If it confirms your story, we'll drop the issue. If not...”
"I remembered wrong!" Hearing that he was going to check the footage, Hollis hurriedly interrupted, stammering, "It wasn't at the kindergarten, it was... it was..."
After stuttering for a while, Hollis couldn't come up with a coherent explanation, and her forehead was covered in cold sweat.
Donovan observed her inadequate performance with cold eyes. After waiting for a response that never came, his patience wore thin, and his voice filled with irritation. "Hollis, how many times have you abused the name of the Wilder Corporation to wield power recklessly? I don't want to investigate this further, but your actions this time have triggered Finley's autism. If anything happens to her, don't blame me for disregarding our years of friendship!”
Donovan's tone was icy, and when Hollis met his gaze, she felt a shiver run down her spine. She quickly lowered her head, not doubting the truth in his words.
After speaking, Donovan gave her a cold glance and stood up to leave.
"Donovan!" Hollis still wanted to struggle.
Donovan turned back with a blank expression. "What else do you have to explain? You'd better come up with a reason that convinces me."
Hollis's lips trembled, but she eventually lowered her head in embarrassment.
Regardless of what she said, once Donovan reviewed the kindergarten's surveillance footage, her lies would be revealed.
When she looked up again, Donovan had already left. The fear on Hollis's face gradually transformed into resentment.
Hollis never expected things to turn out this way! Donovan actually found out what she did!
And it was all because of Finley! Such a nuisance!
'I should have killed the little brat this morning!' she thought.
