Chapter 338 You Can't Let Her Down
Catherine glanced at Donovan, feeling a chill creep into her heart.
She knew her son all too well. The calmer Donovan looked, the more set in stone his words were. Telling her to butt out of his business with Riley? Yeah, not the first time she’d heard that. What kind of hold did Riley have on him to make Donovan act this way?
Catherine frowned, and after a long pause, she gritted her teeth and snapped, "What do you take Hollis for, saying stuff like that? She’s waited for you forever, and you think you can just brush her off? How is she not better than Riley? Riley ditched Finley without a second thought, and all these years, it’s been Hollis taking care of her. For you, for Finley, for us, Hollis has been amazing!"
Donovan’s eyes were cold as ice. "You really think she’s done nothing wrong?"
Catherine was taken aback, doubting herself for a moment. But thinking it over, Hollis had indeed been as considerate as she claimed. With renewed determination, Catherine nodded firmly.
"Do you think a kid like Finley would reject her for no reason all these years?" Donovan asked, his voice low.
Catherine was stunned again, then patiently defended Hollis, "Hollis said she loves kids, but this is her first time being around one. Mistakes are bound to happen. With more time, their relationship will naturally get better."
She shot Donovan a reproachful look. "How many times have I told you to let Finley spend more time with Hollis, but you always keep her by your side."
Donovan gave a bitter smile, knowing arguing with Catherine was pointless. No matter what he said, she’d always find a way to blame him and defend Hollis.
"So, you’re saying I have to marry Hollis?" he asked.
Catherine nodded slightly. "Hollis has waited for you for so long; you can’t let her down."
Donovan calmly asked, "What if I don’t?"
Catherine’s brows furrowed sharply, her face full of displeasure. "If you don’t marry Hollis, who do you want to marry? Riley? I’ve told you, I’ll never let her into our family, so forget it! Hollis got seriously hurt saving me, and she might have scars. Just for that, you have to marry her!"
Donovan looked at her expressionlessly. The tension between them was thick.
"Riley herself said she’s not interested in you. Even if you want to marry her, she might not be willing," Catherine said coldly.
Donovan frowned slightly, his face indifferent. "Even if she’s unwilling, I won’t marry Hollis."
Hearing this, Catherine was furious, gripping her coffee cup tightly to keep her cool.
"The Sutton Family helped me. Over the years, the Wilder Group has given the Sutton family enough to repay that kindness. As for her saving you, that’s between you and her. What I can do is, as you said, take care of her until she recovers. I can also find the best doctors to make sure she won’t have scars. Beyond that, I can’t do more," Donovan stated calmly.
